My daughter has 4 Sophia’s in her class alone.

Also Rueben seems to be the most common boys name.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Shout out to all those parents punching the air when they realise none of their childrens' names have featured so far 😂

I’m absolutely gutted one of my DCs names has appeared, I honesty never expected it especially as it’s so hated on MN. I suppose as Meatloaf said, two out of three ain’t bad though 😂

yerdaindicatesonbends · 15/10/2022 15:43

I find it so fascinating how this happens. For instance my DD is on some of these lists but yet when we picked it we did partially as it wasn’t common, and now we know of a few others.

In my experience I hear a lot of Logan, Theo, Emilia/Millie, Emily and Zara.

cypresstree · 15/10/2022 15:00

I don't know any Ruebens, however I know two Reubens.

conkercollector · 15/10/2022 14:39

I am a primary school teacher. We have very few doubles of names these days. The only ones we have are George and Logan.

My DD has one of the most often-mentioned popular names. There are only two in the school. There are more children in the school named Luna (3). There are even two Enzos!

200 odd in our school, NW, overwhelmingly white and I don’t know a single Oliver or Olivia.

8 classes of 24, Yorkshire for context.

I'd say majority white but not overwhelmingly so. Most classes have 3-5 Asian (by this I mean Pakistani/Indian, I don't think we have any East Asian kids at the moment) children but the current Reception is pretty much 50-50.

liveforsummer · 15/10/2022 14:23

I don’t know any children called David. It will be very sad if we run out of Dave’s

Plenty David's in the primary school I work in.

Crazy how different these names are to the popular ones when I was at school (90s/00s). Not an Evie or an Arlo in sight but most of the boys were either Ben, Chris, Tom, Alex or Josh. I know at least 10 of each. Girls were Sophie, Amy, Becky/Becca, Ellie or Emma.

My Dad is in his late 50s and I swear most of his friends are either Dave or Mike!

I don’t know any children called David. It will be very sad if we run out of Dave’s 😢

MsJuniper · 15/10/2022 11:54

Lots of variation on Ally/Ellie/Elena/Ella although all with different spellings.

Luca/cca very popular.

I had always wanted an Oscar but when DS was born the name had become very popular and I didn't want it to become dated/him to be one of 4 in a class. Needless to say we have met not a single Oscar in any school or activity, but there is another child with his name in the year above at school with whom he constantly gets mixed up 🤷‍♀️

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 15/10/2022 11:37

Names go in cycles. I think the cutsie 'ie' names are at the end of their cycle now.

They will date horribly, too, IMO.

My mother thought she'd picked a classic, timeless name for me, one that wouldn't date. Unfortunately she was wrong: my name is so much of its era that you could probably age most of the people called by it to within about two decades of our birth.

My middle name hits more of the note she was aiming for: I think it's a timeless, classic, beautiful name. I much prefer it to my first name and don't know why on earth I didn't opt to use it in my adult life! Bit late now though.

TwiggletLover · 15/10/2022 11:28

Sophia( various spellings) Isabella/ Bella
James

yomellamoHelly · 15/10/2022 11:24

Year 7: Lots of Mia / Meahs this year and Evans and Henrys. Couple of years ago it was lots of Amelia / Millies and Olivers.

@Workawayxx I’m really surprised by Andrew and Martha, where are you based?

Martha has been popular for years. I worked in a nursery from 2003 to 2005 and we had three there at that time. I still see it regularly in schools now.

I know of a school that has an Andrew, Michael and a Shaun in one class. Another class had a Robert and a Daniel. And there's a Kevin in another one (though that's not ond your hear often admittedly). My friends nephew is 2 and is called Nigel. I thought he was taking the piss when he told me.

Names go in cycles. I think the cutsie 'ie' names are at the end of their cycle now.

DS name hasn't come up yet, but he's in nursery still (so theres time for when he starts next year as it was a pretty popular name in 2019 according to dns). There is a baby there who has the same name however, but a different spelling. Otherwise I've never met a child with the same name as ds and I've worked in 3 different schools over the past 10 years.

My son's hasn't appeared either. It's recognizable enough that every now and again you meet one or two, not one of those names no one's ever heard of, or that sounds as though it's been made up.

My brother's, on the other hand, is all over this thread!

There were a lot of Daniels when I was at school, that's another one I haven't seen mentioned. Names like Thomas and James are timeless and never seem to date.

I have no idea what I'd have named a daughter. I find girls' names much more difficult; not at all keen on diminutives, which doesn't help!

3 Hollies in one class alone. Charlie among the boys (upper KS2)
Previous school it was Olivia/Isabelle and variations/Zacks of different spellings.

Frazzled2207 · 15/10/2022 09:54

Kimya · 14/10/2022 21:03

The only repeated name in my daughter's year (one form entry) is Florence.

Otherwise, there seem to be a lot of Graces and Hugos among the rest of the school. Bizarrely I'm not aware of an Oliver or Olivia but I'm sure there must be some.

Frazzled2207 · 15/10/2022 09:51

NW
not loads of duplicates but then again not a large school. The ones I can think of are

Max
Leo
Charlie
Jake

Lily
Ruby
Ellie/Ella
Evie
Mia
Emily - certainly feels like virtually all girls names are a mix of the letters E, M and/or L

abstractplantpot · 15/10/2022 09:42

My youngest has 5 Corey's in his class and 4 olivia's.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 15/10/2022 09:11

Sussex

HopSkipJumpSkip · 15/10/2022 08:19

Maya
Sophia
Theo
Luca
Ines

Parmesam · 15/10/2022 07:23

Diverse South London secondary school, not much duplication.

Names that were popular in the early 2000s in my child's class, so Ruby, Sophia, Lily, Indigo, Amina, Aaliyah, Niamh.

TheNinthLock · 15/10/2022 07:15

Ava for girls, Oliver for the boys
