I love it.

DH refused to even consider it, saying it sounded like a waitress in a roller diner (we are not American). See also: Ramona.

Kikikik · 14/11/2022 19:59

It's my daughter's middle name. My husband loved it but I couldn't see it as a first name as just couldn't see it aging well. People like it as a middle.name

StupidSmallFruit · 18/10/2022 08:17

Sorry, it is dreadful.

The kind of name someone who didn’t realise Stella already meant ‘star’, and was trying to go for a unique vibe (which is never a good idea), would use…..

FourChimneys · 18/10/2022 08:13

It's dreadful. Give the poor child a proper name.

Luxurysleuth007 · 18/10/2022 07:24

It’s a rough name, definitely chav. Sorry

Purpleavocado · 18/10/2022 07:19

Very American trailer park

Isn't that a Pokémon?

Shopgirl1 · 15/10/2022 23:02

When you can't decide what's on your mind
It's clear I'm here, Starla dear

A580Hojas · 15/10/2022 22:53

Nope.

Deadringer · 15/10/2022 22:50

Sounds like a stripper/porn name to me, maybe because it sounds like starlet.

Ellmau · 15/10/2022 22:44

I would asume American.

NewDogOwner · 15/10/2022 22:23

No.

Purpletopaz42 · 15/10/2022 22:10

I like Starla, I think it sounds really pretty. Stella is also a nice name and Stella's are traditionally called "Star" as a nickname.

ChagSameachDoreen · 15/10/2022 19:08

Hideous.

American trailer girl.

hotteaandcrumpets · 15/10/2022 09:12

Starlight is in The Boys.

Babooshka1991 · 15/10/2022 06:09

Isn’t that a character name from The Boys?

Zizou04 · 14/10/2022 21:57

Blaze and the Monster Machines!

The purple car with the cowboy hat is Starla 🤠

S25 · 14/10/2022 19:20

So, to summarise we have:

In the blue corner
A sweet, good-natured girl who is also confident enough to carry her name well and who is nurtured by her trippy-hippy parents.

In the red corner
An unattractive cartoon character who is a 50yr old stripper, with a chavvy background, currently working in Texas, living in a trailer.

MN at its finest!! 😉

Libmama · 14/10/2022 17:25

Its the purple monster machine with the Texan accent in Blaze and the Monster Machines!

I don’t like it for an actual human.

emmathedilemma · 14/10/2022 12:51

It sounds like one of those names people make up for their house with they merge their two names together to make a unique word. It's awful.

S25 · 14/10/2022 12:41

Oh wow, quite the response and quite the mix as expected! 😂 I’m not actually pregnant just yet but I just love names and discussing them as does DH! This isn’t my usual style of name - DH and I both have very classic timeless names so I wanted to see how something a little more “out there” was perceived by others. I remember hearing it years ago (I’m a 90s baby so perhaps it might have been the cartoon? Though I don’t remember that at all - I’ve googled it and it doesn’t ring any bells so I’m probably a tad too young so not sure where I have heard it from) it’s just I heard it the other day and I was more inclined to think it was fairly alternative/hippy/boho kind of style over “chavvy” as some have mentioned. Interesting to see all the responses though so thanks all!

Sorry, makes me think 'stripper'.

Hilarymantelspencilsharpener · 14/10/2022 08:39

If it's the 'star' connotation you're after I think there are nicer names tbh
