Grey, Gray and Greyson, Grayson for a boy

Just wondering what you thought of these. We don't know the sex yet and there's still a long time to go but I'm constantly intrigued by names I encounter.

I'm not considering these as of yet, they are a bit trendy for my taste. My husband loves Greyson, though.

I personally don't think I could agree to Greyson (I'm mostly into old fashioned names and some nature names) but I guess I could get into Grey as a middle name only.

What do you think of Grey, Gray and Greyson, Grayson and which spellings would you pick?

Is it too depressing? I find the colour quite beautiful but I guess it depends.

I used to like Graydon. Not the sort of name DH would countenance though so could never have used it for my DS.

Algor1thm · 20/10/2022 21:58

Nice sound to them but just so trendy. Very 'fast fashion' and I see them dropping out of the charts as quickly as they appeared and then being very, very dated. It's like Kaylum circa 2005. Or Kylie circa 1985.

TrashyPanda · 20/10/2022 14:10

Graham/Graeme - great names

Gray/Gregson etc - doesn’t have any positive associations - dull, drab, uninspiring, unhealthy, boring, utilitarian.

peaceinourtime · 19/10/2022 23:32

I don't understand the popularity of Grayson as aa name. It's a drab colour, boring and unimaginative.

MyHeadHurtsBecausePeopleAreStupid · 19/10/2022 16:26

I like Garvin

SpikeGilesSandwich · 19/10/2022 16:21

I'm not keen, sorry. You can't please everyone though, whatever you choose, if you like those names, just pick one.

My DS has a friend with a name that I thought was awful at first but now I'm used to it and it just makes me think of the lovely little boy he is, I've really come round to it. People won't be rude about it once your baby is here.

beonmywaythen · 19/10/2022 16:07

Gray or Grayson

PinkSyCo · 19/10/2022 16:07

Oh God isn’t there enough grey in the world? Grey furniture and walls in everyone’s homes to match the depressing grey skies and now I suppose we’re gonna have an influx of grey babies! What about something a bit more uplifting like Mauve or Burgundy perhaps?

InterestQ · 19/10/2022 15:54

Isn’t Greyson the Aldi gin that pretend’s it’s Gordon’s? I love gin so seems nice enough to me!

Louisa4987 · 19/10/2022 15:52

There's one at my daughters preschool and I wince every time I hear it. It's an awful name why would you do it to the poor childBlush

ChagSameachDoreen · 19/10/2022 15:48

Awful.

Penguinsaregreat · 14/10/2022 06:00

I like Greyson best. Reminds me of 50 shades as too.

SeanChailleach · 14/10/2022 05:52

I don't know how widespread this is, but I personally know three teenage girls who have changed their name to Grey/Gray as part of a "non-binary" identity.

Mydogatemypurse · 13/10/2022 21:47

I immediately thought of game of thrones

Daisybuttercup12345 · 13/10/2022 21:42

I prefer Graham.

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/10/2022 19:40

It’s depressing.

I’d be imagining the baby as a grey faced businessman worn out by his commute/cubical job/horrible boss

KirstenBlest · 13/10/2022 19:30

Graham is ok. Not keen on Grey (too drab) and Grayson will be Grays (too similar to Grace)

GiltEdges · 13/10/2022 18:32

I know a little girl called Gray. Not a name I’d choose personally, but it actually suits her really well. For a boy, I prefer Graeme to Grayson.

LynetteScavo · 13/10/2022 18:30

Greyson is a nice name, but the one I know is sometimes called Grey, which doesn't suit him at all, as grey is such a dull colour, and he's anything but dull!

Summer8summer8 · 13/10/2022 14:05

@Rebeccaatmumsnet what do you think about Grayson or Graham? :)

MassiveSalad22 · 13/10/2022 14:04

*Lisa Rinna

fucking hell

MassiveSalad22 · 13/10/2022 14:03

*it WOULDN’T suit us

MammyS · 13/10/2022 14:03

They're very American to me. I also think grey is such a bleak colour to name your child around.

Of all of them, Grayson is the best spelling but I just don't like the name. How about other surname types if you like that vibe?

Harrison
Lawson
Sullivan
Eddison
Dawson
Watson

Its just the grey part I find really dull and off putting!

MassiveSalad22 · 13/10/2022 14:02

I like Grayson but wouldn’t use it for my child as it holding suit is. Greyson just looks yucky to me. Lose Rinna’s daughter is Amelia Gray. I don’t know why I like it because what is it… GRAY. It’s just a noise. But I DO like it and it gives me a sense of calm.

Summer8summer8 · 13/10/2022 13:59

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 13/10/2022 13:05

The spelling of Greyson looks a bit off to me.

Grayson definitely seems to be on the up. Reminded me of this tweet I saw from Grayson Perry a couple of weeks ago.

I like it :)
