Boyfriend thinks my top 3 names are silly, are there any similar?

So I have a top 3 for boys and a top 3 for girls but I can't get my boyfriend on board with any of them!

Boys are Hayes, Archer and Abel.

Girls are Amelie, Nora and Jovie.

He hates them all and refuses to flex. When we named our first child it took forever to come to an agreement on his name, so I just know its going to be a struggle all over again! Any help is appreciated.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Could you use Hayes as his middle name? My son has my maiden name as his middle names as it's a tradition on DHs side of the family.

So John Hayes Sullivan
Or Nora Hayes Sullivan

KirstenBlest · 10/10/2022 17:53

@MammyS , Amelie peaked in 2013, and was hardly ever used until the film came out in 2001. Amelia is a lot more popular.

MammyS · 10/10/2022 17:52

@Nizanb thank you, I do too! I actually first heard it on the film Elf haha, but I think its so pretty. I do really like Jolie too, might suggest that as its a bit less "out there" than Jovie!

mathanxiety · 10/10/2022 17:48

Also:
Griffin
Emmett
Everett
Rowen

Girls:
Jocelyn
Allison
Nola
Maeve
Ivy
Hazel
Delaney
Lola
Rosanna

Nizanb · 10/10/2022 17:47

I think Jovie actually us beautiful! It's like Jolie, I used to know a girl by that name and thought it was a lovely name. It's very bright and, well, joyful!

MammyS · 10/10/2022 17:45

@mathanxiety you're definitely right in that Amelie does seem to be gaining in popularity, but we don't personally know any. Its more the fact we know lots personally/are related to lots of Olivia's and Isabella's.

I do quite like Rafferty but its a bit clashy with my partners surname so we probably couldn't use even if he said yes. Jonas is nice too, might see what he thinks of that!

NCFT0922 · 10/10/2022 17:38

@SarahTTCx I know 5 girls called Amelie and 3 called Nora. I only know 1 Olivia so don’t let the popularity of a name put you off.

boys; Archie, Arthur?
don’t like the others at all.

mathanxiety · 10/10/2022 17:35

There are a gazillion Amelies, Amelias, and Emilias out there. If you counted the different versions as the same name they would be the most popular girl name in the UK by a long shot.

I love Olivia, and from your list I love Nora. Not keen on the rest of your names, though I can see why you like Hayes, and I think as an Irish surname it would go well with Sullivan.

Suggestions:
Rafferty
Raftery
Connor/ Conor
Lewis
Rhys
Ronan
Rory
Abram
Beckett
Leo
Fintan
Declan
Kiernan
Killian
Elliott
Fergus
Austin
Holden
Tiernan
Quinn
Jonas (means John)

MammyS · 10/10/2022 17:33

@JadeSeahorse this is my thinking too, they need something similar to Sullivan in that its uncommon but not weird!

MammyS · 10/10/2022 17:31

@mam0918 people are a bit harsh on here anonymously aren't they 😂 I wasn't asking for opinions on my names, but rather alternative names along a similar line!

Its water off a ducks back though, I know my taste isn't "normal" but its also not crazy out there unheard of names!

Seems a lot of the response here do NOT keep up with the trends in baby names. These names arent wierd, wildly unusual or made up lol.

There have been 98 baby Jovies registered since 1996. I'm amazed that I've not heard of it.

JadeSeahorse · 10/10/2022 17:26

I love Sullivan! ♥️

However, I do think you need an equally original name for your second child.

If my brother had a really cool name like Sullivan and I was named something unoriginal like John or Olivia, I would be well peed off.☹️

MammyS · 10/10/2022 17:26

@Strokethefurrywall coincidentally my Sullivan's middle name is Elliot 😂 sometimes wish i'd kept it to use as a first name.

formulatingAresponse · 10/10/2022 17:21

I like Amalie but that's it

Trinity65 · 10/10/2022 17:17

Some names I have seen here I like (though I am not you of course)

Haydn/Hayden
Mason
Cyrus (I really like that and wish I'd named one of mine that)
Kyle

And a name I like and not heard for years, a Welsh name, Bryn

Sorry OP but I am with your boyfriend on this one.

Don't like any of the boys names but I do like Amelie out of the girls choices

JamSandle · 10/10/2022 16:47

Amelie and Nora are beautiful.

Samzzz · 10/10/2022 16:42

I like Archer, Abel and Amelie :). Good luck!

RaRaRaspoutine · 10/10/2022 16:35

Hayes makes me want to sing the Hayes Travel jingle. Sorry. I like Nora out of all of those but the rest are a bit naff imho.

gluenotsoup · 10/10/2022 16:32

Spencer?
Asa?
Eleanor could be Nora or Nell

mam0918 · 10/10/2022 16:24

I suprised yor getting a hard time on the boys names, Hayes isnt my taste but not unheard off, Archer is common now and Abel is a classic.

Only one Im not a huge fan of is Nora as its dusty but it still perfectly usable if thats your taste.

I prefer Jovi on a boy than a girl.

TenoringBehind · 10/10/2022 16:21

Amelie and Nora are nice. I think he has a point about the others.

slowquickstep · 10/10/2022 16:16

Richard for a boy

NotRainingToday · 10/10/2022 15:51
