I prefer Leo.

or Lyle.

frogswimming · 09/10/2022 20:53

Sounds like a dads name to me, I'm in my mid 40s, therefore the name of someone in their late 70s or 80s.

thisisit77 · 09/10/2022 20:51

Jeffrey Darmers dad 😩although that's only prevalent because of the recent Netflix series so the association will probs die out

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/10/2022 20:40

Blair or Richie

BattenburgSlice · 09/10/2022 20:38

Lionel Blair’s Cockney rhyming slang for flairs 😂

VariationsonaTheme · 09/10/2022 20:36

I’d assume you were a Messi fan.

EstellaRijnveld · 09/10/2022 20:35

No, I prefer Leon as it sounds more modern. Lionel sounds a bit too elderly gentleman!

A580Hojas · 09/10/2022 20:33

I really like it!

Marluuu · 09/10/2022 20:30

Great name!

marmaladepop · 09/10/2022 20:26

Hate it

HauntedPencil · 09/10/2022 20:05

I actually love it. Do it!

IglesiasPiggl · 09/10/2022 17:46

To me, it is of the same era as Kenneth, Barry and Keith. Dated and not quite making a comeback yet.

nelliebear8 · 09/10/2022 17:34

I love it! A rare gem ;)

HairyMothballs · 09/10/2022 14:27

Lionel Blair
Lionel Richie
Lionel Messi

I don't like it

CourageCamille · 09/10/2022 14:25

I can only hear it in Joan Greenwood's voice from Kind Hearts and Coronets which is no bad thing.

chaosagent · 09/10/2022 14:24

I think it's fine. It's the kind of name that familiar to everyone but at the same time it's not popular.

I've never heard of Lionel Blair before. I think the only Lionel who today's kids and teens will be familiar with is Lionel Messi.

You might get some questions about the pronunciation (English Vs Spanish/European) but it's not a big deal.

as people snigger when they hear it

I wonder what sort of person would snigger at Lionel? Confused

Absolutely no idea but he is in his early 50s and there have been a few over the years.apparently. He’s not prone to imagining things and can be quite oblivious to people’s reactions so it must have been fairly obvious.

Volterra · 09/10/2022 12:15

I know someone with it as a middle name. He detests it as people snigger when they hear it and he tries not to use it.

DotDotDotDotDot · 08/10/2022 19:20

Same here!!

And me.

SardineJam · 09/10/2022 12:13

Great name!

AllPlayedOut · 09/10/2022 12:12

It's awful.

Lilacsunflowers · 09/10/2022 12:11

Lionel is a great name. Lion a cute nickname

Underhisi · 09/10/2022 11:08

I think Blair. It doesn't have any obvious shortenings. I prefer Leo or Leon if you want a lion name.

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/10/2022 22:02

It’s quite Edwardian sweet - like Ernest or Leonard.
