Some witchy names

I love witchy names (that make me think of kind witches, not evil ones). Agatha is one of my favourites but my husband dislikes it so unfortunately it's not on our list. Sabrina is on our list and I love it. Last night I was reading "The Worst Witch" to my little cousin and encountered some more lovely witchy names. What do you think?

Enid
Mildred
Maud
Dawn
Gloria
Ethel

and from the TV show that I remember watching as a kid (some names are the names of the actresses):

Ruby
Felicity
Sybil
Georgina
Drusilla

Thoughts? And would you say that Felicity is a posh name? I just noticed lots of comments like that in an old post on the name that I found.

Ruby is already on our list too but feels a bit "woman in her 20s" to me. Husband loves it, though.

I wouldn't consider all of them for my list but curious what you think. The ones I would consider adding (if my husband agrees): Enid (this was also suggested by someone here, thanks!), Felicity.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love Sybil so much! What about Matilda, Edith, Meredith, Bridget, Mabel, Seraphina, Winifred?

I love Sabrina, and gave my next DD that name two years ago.
But I’m not even close to another child yet let alone a dd 😂
I think Hermione as PP have suggested is too Harry Potter, but think Marnie is a gorgeous spin on the name

Not a fan of Mildred, it makes me think of mildew and dread.
Like Maud, Georgina and Enid, Ruby (there were loads of Rubys at DS’s primary school so I don’t think of it as an adult name!) Felicity (yes I think it’s relatively posh but don’t think that matters).
I remember a book where Gloria was known as Ally due to a nickname shift - Gloria, Glory, Glory Alleluia, Ally.
Ethel was also a witch in Which Witch? but she was a nasty sort with piggy eyes and that’s always what I think of!
There was also a witch called Mabel in the same book, she wasn’t great either but I like the name!
Willow? Tara? Amy? (Buffy) Laura, Winter, Miryam (The Changeover)

Sabrina as pp has said is the goddess/ personification of the Severn. She’s in Milton ( Comus) as a saviour.

Further to the above, also love Agatha (love Agatha Christie).

I would keep pushing for this. Let him choose the middle name etc

jonesy1999 · 07/10/2022 16:59

I like Enid, Ethel and Sybil from your list.

I also love the Worst Witch and witchy names. Love Tabitha, it's a shame your husband has vetoed it.
