Opinions on the name Ford please? As a first name rather than middle name.
It's a family name and I'd love to use it.

Prefect. HHGTTG.

No

Turtles4543 · 04/10/2022 07:51

Ford KA

YourLipsMyLips · 04/10/2022 07:28

Angus and Ford is a nice combo!

ChagSameachDoreen · 04/10/2022 06:55

A horrible, abrupt name.

ChampagneCamping · 04/10/2022 06:12

I like it.

wingingit33 · 04/10/2022 05:55

I'd go more Audi to be honest.

sashh · 04/10/2022 04:28

TrashyPanda · 03/10/2022 15:48

Ford will always have a towel with him.
and some babel fish.

That groovy dude always know where his towel is.

DontSuitAJumpsuit · 03/10/2022 14:54

Yes I'd say Fawrd rather than Foard, of that makes sense?

I'm amazed at all the references to a Ford Prefect, I had to Google!

I came on to make a 'Prefect' comment, been beaten to it by half of mumsnet.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 04/10/2022 00:51

It’s ok !

Daisybuttercup12345 · 04/10/2022 00:48

I would have it as a second middle name, so first name, middle name then third name Ford then surname

HaveringWavering · 04/10/2022 00:03

Loving all the HHGTTG fans in here. OP please also have a third child and call him Zaphod.

You don't say whether you realised the connection OP? I think it might be quite cool as a teenager to read the books and know your name was associated with them.

Dinoteeth · 03/10/2022 23:56

Op given you have a relation with the name, I'd maybe ask them if they've ever had any issues with being called Ford.

If they've had issues being called T, Escort, or Ford What? Ford cars have been around for over a century. Or people questioning if they heard correctly I'd maybe rethink, use it as a middle name.

The Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy I wouldn't worry about kids are less likely to know about that link.

Fishandchipsupper · 03/10/2022 23:46

One handy thing though, people will always be happy to buy him towels for his birthday.

DontSuitAJumpsuit · 03/10/2022 20:21

I think that would definitely work really well to be honest (although do prefer Forbes)

giantwaterbottle · 03/10/2022 19:17

I'm not very interested in cars so I suppose I just didn't think of it that way, also having a relative called Ford I think of a name.

Surname is very Scottish, think McGregor. It's a Mc one.

Other son is Angus. So they'd be Angus and Ford.

@DontSuitAJumpsuit People are referring to a character called Ford Prefect from Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy rather than the car.

Allmarbleslost · 03/10/2022 19:11

As in Focus? I mean it's a good car but I wouldn't name my kid after it.

PeekAtYou · 03/10/2022 19:10

the Hitchhiker thing wouldn't bother me but I have a Ford parked in my driveway and I'd imagine that a child called Ford could easily end up with 101 car jokes and nicknames aimed at them. It would be hard for me not to say "Ford, focus!" by mistake

lljkk · 03/10/2022 19:03

I dated one ... decades ago. Yes we are American. You'd make it work.

Dinoteeth · 03/10/2022 16:54

Op I'm not sure about it. With the right surname it could sound fab. But it's the issues of it being a car.

Blueberrywitch · 03/10/2022 16:08

I like it! I’m not British though. It’s in a similar vein to Hudson, Cooper etc.

WaltzingWaters · 03/10/2022 15:53

Sorry but big no

BecauseICan22 · 03/10/2022 15:50

Car

Mondeo

Focus

S-Max

You understand.

TrashyPanda · 03/10/2022 15:48

DismantledKing · 03/10/2022 15:27

You’re confusing Ford with Arthur

Ford will always have a towel with him.
and some babel fish.

jonesy1999 · 03/10/2022 15:47

Scottish comedian Ford Keirnan (sp?) so it's definitely not unheard of in Scotland.

I think it would depend on your surname. I think it's ok.
