Opinions on the name Ford please? As a first name rather than middle name.
It's a family name and I'd love to use it.

I like it! Someone I know has a Ford who's about 9.

OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside · 05/10/2022 18:03

@giantwaterbottle

Are you serious that's ridiculous

nokitchen · 05/10/2022 09:29

It's a brilliant name, and I'd use it just in tribute to Douglas Adams. I get quite emotional when I hear the theme to HHGTTG and I'm hard as nails usually

WildCherryBlossom · 05/10/2022 08:01

Douglas Adams explaining how he came to name his character Ford Prefect

Ford?
eenymeenymineymo · 05/10/2022 07:15

I like it.
A good friend of mine has used it for one of her dear boys but spelled it as Forde.
Mind you it fits well with her other children's names so bear that in mind with siblings names.
Just because I think it might not sit easily beside other more commonly used/familiar names (examples may include names such as Mary, Peter, Michael etc etc)

One of my own children has a middle name Morgan which he loathes with a passion & is only thankful that it's not his first name. So unusual names might not be met with enthusiasm even from the recipient 😊

piratehugs · 05/10/2022 07:06

Personally, I love it. Yes, Ford Prefect, but he is gutsy and resourceful. Once it's your baby's name, it will be associated with him more than anything else.

WildCherryBlossom · 05/10/2022 07:03

Apologies @GlacindaTheTroll . You are right.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 05/10/2022 05:42

I think it's awful

Can I remind fellow hikers that May 25th is 'Towel day'.

@Dinoteeth

From the guide:

A towel is just about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can carry. Partly because it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it around your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you — daft as a brush, but very very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course you can dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.

GlacindaTheTroll · 04/10/2022 22:38

"you need to get hold of a copy of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Ford Prefect is a man frood who always knows where his towel is"

Fixed that for you

possibly even hoopy frood

HaveringWavering · 04/10/2022 22:31

Why no chance of you reading it @Dinoteeth?

What a strange thing to say.

inheritanceshiteagain · 04/10/2022 17:10

Ford Prefect. Every time with the Douglas Adams

TrashyPanda · 04/10/2022 17:07

Dinoteeth · 04/10/2022 17:02

😂😂
No chance of me reading it. But thanks for the info.

It’s a classic.
first read it way back in 1981

Dinoteeth · 04/10/2022 15:59

I'm not getting the comments about towels.

FeralWitch · 04/10/2022 15:56

Do it. You can serve Pangalactic Gargleblasters at the christening.

ellieeex · 04/10/2022 15:40

I personally wouldn't

ColeensBoot · 04/10/2022 15:36

Ok OP, but you will have to expect towels to be gifts from hilarious friends for forever Confused

giantwaterbottle · 04/10/2022 14:58

@HaveringWavering I do know Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, read the book a long time ago and watched the film. Good but not a favourite of mine or anything so other than it being a name I didn't give it much more thought

I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and we are naming this one Ford. I love it (and we are based in the uk)
Regarding all the car stuff I would rather he was called something different than one of 100 Williams etc in his class.
Plus there are so many names out there that you could say have meanings that are silly.
Go for it!

KirstenBlest · 04/10/2022 14:34

Aston Martin?

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 04/10/2022 14:10

No.

Longdarkcloud · 04/10/2022 14:07

Personally, I prefer Austin.

I'm not very interested in cars so I suppose I just didn't think of it that way, also having a relative called Ford I think of a name.

Surname is very Scottish, think McGregor. It's a Mc one.

Other son is Angus. So they'd be Angus and Ford.

I think that would be ok.
