Exactly as the title says - we found out we’re expecting a girl! I previously made a post on name ideas and got good advice and we have put it down to 3 now. Our 3 options now are Madeleine, Irene and Rose. DH thinks Madeleine first, Irene second and Rose third.

Madeleine . Rose is ok as a middle name but is a bit lacking as a first name and Irene is in the same sort of dowdy / drudgy category as Deirdre to my ears .

ChocolateSpreadOnToast · 02/10/2022 14:03

Madeleine!
Rose is too popular for my liking now.
Irene is just dated, not a fan sorry.

MarmiteCoriander · 02/10/2022 14:00

1st Madeleine, 2nd Rose. Personally don't like Irene at all. I would pronounce it as EYE-REEN.

How long is your surname, because Rose is 1 syllable, Irene 2 and Madeleine 3.

Depending how they flow together, I agree with either Madeleine Rose Surname, or Rose Madeleine Surname.

ColumboOnTheCase · 02/10/2022 13:57

Irene
Madeleine
Rose

LuciaPopp · 02/10/2022 13:54

How would you pronounce Irene? Two syllables- no. Three syllables- yes yes yes!

octoberfarm · 02/10/2022 13:54

Madeleine first, Rose second. Love both of those names. Not such a fan of Irene, sorry. Congratulations!

J0y · 02/10/2022 13:54

Really dislike Madeleine

I like Rosa and Irina / Iryna but not Ireeeene

Katapolts · 02/10/2022 13:52

Madeleine or Rose. I think Rose is slightly more common at the moment.

Not keen on Irene as a first name but it would work as a middle name.

I'd go for:
Madeleine Rose Smith
or
Rose Irene Smith

cptartapp · 02/10/2022 13:51

Madeleine
Rose (prefer Rosa)

Irene is really grannyish and not in a good way.

Madeleine and Rose are equally lovely.
