Rose as a middle name?

My first daughter has a popular Victorian name along with a flower middle name which was that of her great grandmother.

For our second daughter we were thinking of Henrietta Rose- Rose being another family members name and also a flower.

However now I feel like every baby girl I meet has the middle name Rose - Niamh Rose, Millie Rose, Charlotte Rose etc etc!

Should I still go for it because of the meaning for us, or shall I try and think of something else meaningful?

My great grandmother had the middle name of Rosina, which is a bit of a variation on the theme

If you like it, use it. A lovely name. As are Jane, Anne, Louise etc. I think they're often chosen for personal reasons. But perhaps also to complement a 'busier' first name and finish it off in a balanced way.

It has been done to death. Practically every female child born at a certain period has Rose somewhere in their name.

Beautiful name OP.
My 6yr olds middle name is Rose and if i had her again tomorrow i'd still use Rose regardless of popularity. It's a beautiful name.

I've never met a Henrietta in real life so that's the aspect of Henrietta Rose that would stand out to me.

Who cares if it's a popular middle name, middle names are rarely given an outing day to day.. Rose is nicer than Rosemary, Rosalind etc. and the name has meaning for you so that should be all that matters.

I find Rose/Grace/May dull as middle names and wouldn’t use them but that doesn’t mean that other people shouldn’t. I posted for feedback on middle names under a name change a while ago and a fair few posters said it sounded like a dowdy Sunday school teacher, but that was fine with me!

There are popular middle names in every generation. When I was at school it was Jane, Louise and Ann(e), and large handful of Elizabeths. And several “Emma Jane”s have gone on to call their daughters “Sophia Rose” so it’s not like having the popular middle name of the generation is a scarring experience.

Henrietta Rose sounds gorgeous. If Rose is special to you then you should go for it and not worry about it’s popularity 😊

No it isn't. Rosemary is far more dull. Makes you sound about 50.

Rose, Grace and May are the standard issue middle names of this generation.

But if you have a specific reason for using it, then just go for it.

@Mamai90 , most people mention it at some point; email addresses are often initial and surname. School and college registers were Surname, Firstname Middlename. The community I'm from had few different surnames, and it was common to refer to someone by both their first names, often because there were two Firstname Surnames. Some people use their full name. My name is fairly unusual, so often people will mention their common first name and middle name. One friend's husband calls her Sally Anne not Sally etc.

Sometimes a sister and SIL have the first name and surname. Easier to refer to Sarah Jane or Sarah Louise instead of 'Sarah, Andy's wife/sister'

School registers when I was at school had a lot of Ann(e), Jane and another common middle name on them. A lot of the boys had the same common middle name as the girls, or were Something John or Something James.

@MothsAndWaspsAreUsefulPollinators , yes it will. Many of my age group had Jane or Ann(e) as a middle name. Many of them will have had a grandmother called Jane or Ann(e) but unless I knew the family, that would be lost on me.
They seem to be the filler middle names of their time.
Most of DCs' friends were Something Louise. It seems so unimaginative.

Do you go round asking everyone their middle names?

I only know those of my best friends and who they are called after etc. Also if called after a family member they that name has a special meaning to you. So for instance I was born in the 80s and my middle name is Jane but it's after my aunt and she was called after her aunt. So it's not 'unimaginative' to me. Few people know it and I couldn't give a fuck about anyone's opinion on it regardless.

If it has meaning go for it OP.

Rose is beautiful and classic, that's why it's popular. It's going to be a middle name in your case OP, so it doesn't matter. Henrietta Rose is really lovely.

I have to say between Rose, Belle and Lily (all pretty names), there’s hardly any babies without it whacked on the end these days. I personally would go for anything else just to not be the exact same

Yep - I have Louise as a middle name (80s child).
My DD has Rosemary as one of her middle names as it was my mums middle name. My niece has Rose as her middle name.
Go for it - very people know or care about middle names outside of the immediate family.

Rose is a wonderful name. I might be biased though. It is enjoying a bit of a renaissance at the moment, but don’t let that put you off.
