I love Via.

mamatoTails · 01/10/2022 20:48

Friends DD is Olivia; and mainly gets Olí. It suits her.

Ship · 01/10/2022 20:42

Lia is a beautiful name but as a stand alone name. same with Livia which I think is lovely as a stand alone name and imo prettier than Olivia but would probably get misspelled or pronounced.

for Olivia I think Liv and Livvy are lovely nicknames

Beachs · 01/10/2022 20:29

Tbh the nn thing can be a region thing where I'm originally from everyone would always shorten the name ie Gem, if someone called me by my real name ie Gemma I'd wonder what I'd done wrong fast forward moving away and no one shortens my name

Spanielsarepainless · 01/10/2022 10:50

I know it's radical on MN but why don't you just call her Olivia? Nicknames arise spontaneously, not in this weird pre-planned way that parents seem to want.

Azandme · 01/10/2022 09:09

My goddaughter is Liv or Livvy. Except to me.

I call her Olive. Have done since she was about five. Noone else is allowed to, apparently! 😁

My niece is Freya, but I call her Bob. I think Olive got off lightly 🤣🤣🤣.

I'm an 80s born Olivia, when it was pretty unusual, and am almost always Liv or Livy. I've never been an Ollie or anything else. In the past, people would often ask if there was a shortening, now I find that if I introduce myself as Olivia, then I get asked if I am a Liv or Livy, generally nothing else!

user1471508666 · 30/09/2022 06:19

Liv. When I had my DD, I was adamant she would not be Ollie and she never has been.

I’ve never come across another Olivia with Ollie as a shortening.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/09/2022 06:17

Ols

cassrose · 30/09/2022 05:34

Ollie

itwasntmetho · 29/09/2022 16:42

I like unisex names so I’d go with Olly.

Lilacsunflowers · 29/09/2022 16:39

All Olivias I know are Liv.

Liberty often shortens to Lib

Greeneyegirl · 28/09/2022 22:09

Libby is usually short for Elizabeth but i like the idea of using it for Olivia. My friend is Olivia but has always been called Lily

ApolloandDaphne · 28/09/2022 22:08

Libby is my favourite

JamMakingWannaBe · 28/09/2022 22:04

Libby

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 28/09/2022 22:02

glamourousindierockandroll · 28/09/2022 22:02

Liv

TheIsaacs · 28/09/2022 22:00

Livi or Oli are my favourites.

Whereland · 28/09/2022 21:56

I have a multitude of them for my Olivia 😂 Liv, livvy, olivvy, livvy loo which then became loo loo.

Needmorelego · 28/09/2022 21:53

I don't think I would shorten Olivia - it's not exactly a long name.
I don't understand this 'nickname' concept that Mumsnet has. Shortening a name is one thing but to me a nickname is something like Moo Moo or Dinky Do that has a silly back story.

elizabethdraper · 28/09/2022 21:51

Liffey

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/09/2022 21:49

Liv

Livia is nice, although it’s a separate (less overused) name, so you could just go for that.

Lia is really nothing-y

PrincessFluffyPants · 28/09/2022 21:46

I heard Richard E Grant on the radio today and I'm pretty sure he said his nickname for his daughter (Olivia?) was Oily as he and his wife thought she would look like Olive Oil before she was born.

Excuse vagueness of the above but my satnav was talking over the radio so I may have not heard it all correctly Grin
