I would pronounce Sor-ay-a.

Some though pronounce Sor-i-a.

Prefer my way and I first heard it in the 60s, girl in school was called it. Really envied her that name, mine was so bog standard for the times, along with about six other girls in my class called same as me.

I was going to call my baby girl Aurora, because I finally realised I needed to do a test just as the sun came up between two small mountains and shone in through the train window.

But I had a boy. So didn’t.

I still love that name and wish I stuck a Rory somewhere in the many names the family all decided had to be in the mix. Just in recognition of the beauty before me in that split second when both my eyes and brain recognised something new was on the horizon.
