Thoughts on the name Verity?

Thoughts on the name Verity and possible middle names please? Thinking along the lines of Verity Belle or Verity Florence?

Lovely, but it's a tough virtue to live up to. Can your DD Verity guarantee to always be truthful? And, if she must be truthful about your new haircut, your sibling's weird-looking baby or her horrible teacher, will you back her up? If not, maybe go for Verona, Veronica or Venetia.

One of my favourite names and I am working class. Think Florence goes well. I don't think belle works.

CastleTower · 24/09/2022 06:43

Love it. Verity Florence is nice.

RoachTheHorse · 24/09/2022 06:40

We used to have a a verity at school. She wasn't in my friend group but when we worked together I found her thoroughly decent and pleasant.

I think it's a great name.

Love Verity . I imagine someone very capable and sensible. I think Verity Jayne is nice but you might think Jayne is a too common middle name.

Lovely name - a one syllable middle name would go better imo so definitely prefer Belle over Florence

JaninaDuszejko · 24/09/2022 06:33

I love it but not so keen on Belle. Like Florence a lot but if I was being really fussy I'd say I'm not sure how well it flows with Verity. Are there any family names you like for a middle name?

As for the 'it's very middle class' comment I'd say that was a positive, means it passes the famous MN test: 'can you imagine a judge called that'. Definitely.

Verity Belle sounds like a boat.

whiteroseredrose · 24/09/2022 06:31

She's a character in a Jane Austin novel? Or Poldark? Either way, lovely.

Twizbe · 24/09/2022 06:30

I like it. There is one in my daughter's preschool class.

Be warned though. It's hard for little ones to say. My DD has only just stopped calling her Berity.

whiteroseredrose · 24/09/2022 06:29

I love it!

losingit31 · 24/09/2022 06:28

It is the name of a book by Colleen Hoover and she is a thoroughly unpleasant character so for me, it's tainted by that.

Q1w2e3 · 24/09/2022 06:21

I love it! Not so keen on Belle though.

Harrystylestutu · 24/09/2022 06:04

Always reminded me of "ferret -y". Sorry Blush

UnityO · 24/09/2022 05:50

It's not to my taste - too twee.

butterfly990 · 24/09/2022 05:35

I used to work with a young teenager called Verity. She was fun, vivacious and kind.

I personally really like the name. However, I'm from a very working class background and made a friend called Verity at uni. When I mentioned her to my WC friends, almost all of them laughed at or made some kind of comment about the name being really posh, so the upper middle class connotations of the name might be something to bear in mind if you expect your child to be mixing a lot with working class people.
