So, my sister told us last night her names ideas, and she was asking which we prefer. They decided that her husband and her would mix their names to create a new name.

So if it is a girl

Jamifer or Jeniams

A boy :

Jems
Jamer

We all told us it was horrible. But she insist on saying "stranger will find that cute". What do you think

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

FunsizedandFabulous · 18/09/2022 09:17

It must be "baby brain" I can think of no other reason! ConfusedGrin

FlatCheese · 18/09/2022 08:51

Being sensible for a minute (sorry) has she also considered that if they name the DD something beginning with J then they're also presumably going to all have the same initial + surname and that's going to be a bit of a pain with identifying whose post is whose.

Does anybody else remember that Nissan advert from a few years back, where they tried to smash words together to describe it? I can't remember the words they made up so that worked, but it was along the lines of e.g. luxury + economical = luxonomical.

All I do remember is the chaps on Top Gear talking about their opinions of the ad campaign, with Richard Hammond declaring it shiny & bright Grin

Abbreviation:jammy.

Ahhh there was a house near me growing up called Trevon. As in Trevor and Sharon’s house. That was bad, this is worse. But I’m assuming it’s a wind up so 🏆

Bit unfair that Trevor not only went first but got twice as many letters of his name as Sharon did of hers. Still, at least they weren't called Sharon & Teddy.

WonderWoop · 17/09/2022 23:13

She's having you on.

starfishmummy · 17/09/2022 22:44

We made something up as a wind up. We weren't making any announcements about names until DC was here and one relative kept asking. So....

Johnnysgirl · 17/09/2022 22:36

I know several successful people with made up spellings for common names, like Taam for Tom or Marey for Mary
Terrifying that there are people in the world that can't spell Tom or Mary. Even more terrifying if they did it deliberately to be yoonique 😂
Marey... <gobsmacked>

Is she pulling your legs??

If not, these names are ugly, narcissistic and laughable.

lljkk · 17/09/2022 22:31

I don't mind made up names, or odd spellings (I know several successful people with made up spellings for common names, like Taam for Tom or Marey for Mary). But the name should sound nice. else, what's the point?

Insisting on a blend is just like.. so egotistical, too.

What about Raspberry? Coz that's a nice flavour jam.

I thank you for your opinions. I showed her the thread, but she got mad "But immigrants give their children names that are not known or hard to pronounce so should they all be forced to give their kids British names". She got upset, and I should have stayed out of it.

She is not having a laugh, she was serious. I think they all bad, but I'll leave her to it.

Your Her ignorance confirms she isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

MagpiePi · 17/09/2022 22:07

They all sound completely ridiculous.

I think the idea of introducing yourself with your made up name before you impose it on your child should be compulsory

User2145738790 · 17/09/2022 22:00

What about Jafar?

Jamifer 😂 there's something hilarious about this name that I can't quite put my finger on.

Jeniams sounds like slang for testicles.

Jems and Jamer just sound awful. Awful. I can't think of a nice thing to say about either of them.

She does realise that ‘immigrants’ give their children actual names that sound nice to them (and I think their cultures). They’re not generally portmanteau-ing their own names to produce something that people within their culture think sounds crap.

there’s also quite a big distance between jamifer and insisting she must use a ‘British name’.

my bet is that the pregnancy hormones have sent her a bit odd. Hopefully they’ll think of a nice name before they make it to the registrars.

LT2 · 17/09/2022 19:10

Jamie seems the obvious choice for either sex.

She sounds quite heartbreakingly stupid. Her poor child is in for a rough ride.
