Meredith or Edith?

Which do you prefer out of Meredith and Edith? I think I'm more swaying towards Edith but the more I see Meredith, the more I like it, and I suppose it has more nickname/shortenings options!

Edith

WildfellAnne · 17/09/2022 12:34

Edith by far.
Meredith is one of those male names recently appropriated for girls, Welsh, maybe a surname -I’m not sure - that’s completely mispronounced. As a girl’s name, it lacks any class.

OldTinHat · 17/09/2022 12:11

Meredith.

Mwnci123 · 17/09/2022 11:49

Meredith is an anglicisation of the Welsh boy's name Maredudd and is a bit too cutesy imo.

Mwnci123 · 17/09/2022 11:44

Edith.

User6761 · 17/09/2022 11:41

I much prefer Meredith. Maybe influenced by the fact I went to school in the 90s with an Edith and her name was perceived then to be really old-fashioned and dull. I also love Merrin, and the nickname Meri.

Indigoo03 · 17/09/2022 11:28

Meredith too old and too much of a mouthful.

Justcashnosweets · 17/09/2022 11:25

Meredith is a lovely name. I'm not so keen on Edith.

HappyHappyHermit · 17/09/2022 11:24

Meredith, what a weird autocorrect

HappyHappyHermit · 17/09/2022 11:23

Edith is beautiful and classy, also Edie is a lovely nickname. Mereworth sounds like a movie villain to me (maybe from parent trap!)

Meredith for sure. Nn Meri is very sweet too

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/09/2022 11:17

I LOVE Edith, and Edie. Fabulous name.

SpringIntoChaos · 17/09/2022 10:28

Have you thought of Eadie? Currently have one in my class and I'm loving it 😍

plinkypots · 17/09/2022 10:24

Edith nn Edie or Didi. Meredith doesn't sound pretty or strong.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 17/09/2022 10:21

I'll be the lone dissenter - I much prefer Edith as I think it's snappier and fresher-sounding. It's vintage while Meredith feels middle-aged, to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SoupDragon · 17/09/2022 10:14

Another vote for Meredith

Lindy2 · 17/09/2022 10:14

Meredith is pretty and the nickname Merry is a nice one.

Edith just sounds really harsh and ugly to me.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/09/2022 10:07

Meredith - I love Edith too but there are so many of them.

Plus Merry as a short form is lovely, and Edie works too.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 17/09/2022 10:07

Meredith. Don't like Edith at all.

Dreamingcats · 17/09/2022 09:59

Meredith. I'm not keen on Edith.

Undervaluedandsad · 17/09/2022 09:55

Meredith. I had a teacher called this and she was so glamorous and cool.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 17/09/2022 09:47

Meredith definitely
