I gave birth to a beautiful, dinky 5lb little boy on Monday afternoon a few weeks early, so we hadn’t yet settled on a name and we’re still struggling to choose one for him. I hoped I would see him and know which name was “the one” but none feel right. His older brother is called Reuben. Please can you give your opinions on the following names and give any suggestions for us?

Names on our list:

Jasper
Maxwell
Edwin
Joel
Jacob
Toby
Sebastian.

Names we like but can’t use:
Ezra, Eli, Archer, Joshua, Oscar, Isaac.

Thank you. :)

Lovely choice for a gorgeous baby.

He looks like a Spencer to me!

Sorry just seen that you’ve decided, great choice.

I love Reuben, it’s my favourite boys name! I think Jasper is cool and goes nice with it. It’s my favourite from your list. Albie is nice too. Bertie, Raife and Finley I like as well

Congratulations on your baby boy

I was thinking the other day that you never hear baby Matthew's anymore, which is a shame as it's a lovely classical name, that I find quite a handsome name. Maybe one to consider?

From your list

Jasper - it's a nice name
Maxwell - love it
Edwin - nice but maybe a little hard to pull off
Joel - nice, though I actual know a few baby Joel's so maybe on the rise
Jacob - I really like it but dislike Jake which seems inevitible
Toby - love Tobias but not Toby so much
Sebastian - lovely, my second favourite of your choices after Maxwell

Another option you might like, Jobe?

Just noticed yiu’ve chose. Lovely name.

BestIsWest · 17/09/2022 18:39

Jasper and Joel are lovely. I know one of each in their early twenties and always think such nice names.

Mwnci123 · 17/09/2022 18:36

Jasper

RuthW · 17/09/2022 18:09

You have chosen well. Lovely name. Congratulations

elm26 · 17/09/2022 18:04

He's gorgeous! Congratulations! Looks like a Toby to me 😊

3rdOfHisNameBreakerOfPens · 17/09/2022 16:24

Older members of family will always do that. My grandmother has over ten great grandchildren all with supposedly 'weird names'.
Most of them are in the top twenty.
Honestly that generation would be happier with Gary, Brian or Ian. I don't think much of their taste. (Sorry if that's anyone's name, but they are dated!)
Anyway congratulations op, it is a nice choice.

We have decided on Jasper Maxwell (one syllable fairly common surname)

We think it really suits him but some older family members have raised their eyebrows a bit!

He is gorgeous !!!

I'll rearrange my eyebrows if I can have a cuddle 😃

@BergamotMouse me too! It’s a beautiful name, so elegant and good options for shortening.

Congratulations OP, he is stunning. I think he looks like a Jasper personally.

CaptainBarbosa · 17/09/2022 14:26

Congratulations!! He is beautiful!

He looks like a little Edwin to me.

Eddy for a nickname perhaps.

Reuben and Edwin also fit nicely.

But I'm sure whatever you decide upon will suit him just right 😊

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 17/09/2022 14:04

He is adorable!! I think he looks like a Jacob. Congratulations!

3rdOfHisNameBreakerOfPens · 17/09/2022 13:56

Rowan, Jasper, Tristan.
If you are wanting something more mainstream Maxwell is top twenty I believe.

Dannifaye · 17/09/2022 13:45

Not a fan of Toby or Jasper as they seem more like dog names.
I like Sebastian with Reuben.

PMAmostofthetime · 17/09/2022 13:27

@Moonshine160 Congratulations!

Joel Maxwell (surname)

France98 · 17/09/2022 13:03

My sister has a dog called Reuben. Her other dog is Cooper, so that might be a shout! 😂

Billylilly · 17/09/2022 12:41

When I started the thread I thought Jasper, but by the end, I really love Toby or Tobias. I think he looks like a Toby and it goes so well with Reuben. Toby is a cute yet still strong name.
