Unusual but not wacky Girls names

Trying to think of some more girls names to add to my list as currently DP and I only agree on two names (Cleo and Jemima). For my first DD I feel as though I was quite successful in finding a name that was uncommon but not outlandish, but struggling more for this baby. Basically I don’t want anything where there’s going to be 5 of them in the class with the same name. Any ideas?

Heard the name Sorrell today which I thought was lovey!

KeeefBurtain · 14/09/2022 20:35

My youngest daughter is called Elspeth. I’ve only heard of one other, and that was from a poster on here when I was seeking opinions!

I also loved

Jocelyn
Veronica
Clementine
Ishbel
Evangeline
Seraphina

I met a little Corrina today and think that’s a beautiful name!

My daughter is Demi and we have never come across another one, shes now 14. We've done baby groups, 2 different primaries where she was the only one in the whole school (both 2 form entry and I knew as it was computerised when you were late and had to sign in!) and now secondary school where she hasn't met another. I also work with children and neither I nor any of the staff I work with have looked after a girl with her name! So definitely unusual but still a known name.

Oh I really love Demi too! 😍

I LOVE Marnie but I'm a bit worried it's about to get very popular, same as Ottilie which I also love. There were 5 people the same name as me at my school, hence why I want something unusual 😂

Marnie.

Love Jemima. It was one of Job's daughters names. The other 2 daughters were Kezia and Keren. How about Hephsibah?

SunsetGirl · 14/09/2022 20:28

I chose a rare but not unusual name (it's appeared several times on this thread), only 5 with that name the year she was born, and two of them were in the same class. 🤷🏻‍♀️

JamSandle · 14/09/2022 20:28

Tammy/Tami

Sabrina

I don't think Chloe is out there but it always reminds me of a spirited slightly mischievous girl.

Xenia

Elodie

What about virtue names? Uncommon but not outlandish? Names like Verity, Faith, Hope - unlikely to be others in the same class.

What a great thread! Lots of beautiful and interesting ideas on here - makes a real change from the usual 9 or 10 names I keep hearing everywhere irl.

Lots of my favourites have already been mentioned, but I like:

Marina
Frida
Greta
Flora
Vita
Aster
Aphra
Briar
Blythe
Sorrel
Tansy
Gaia
Cora
Esther
Viola
Robyn

A few names to avoid if you don’t want super common/trendy (DD is just starting Reception and these are the multiples in her year group/nursery):

Isla
Olivia
Eva/Evie
Myla/Mila
Lyla/Lila
Ava
Aria/Arya
Luna
Millie/Tilly and variations thereof (Matilda; Amelia etc)

Sussex34 · 14/09/2022 18:59

The suggestions have been absolutely fantastic - exactly what I was looking for! Some truly beautiful names, many I hadn't considered before. Thank you so much ☺️

Cleo
Saskia
Arabella
Elenora
Henrietta
Juliana
Miriam
Rosamund

HelenaJustina · 14/09/2022 18:42

All 4 of my daughters names appear in this thread. Some great ideas here!

If I had another daughter, my shortlist would be:
Tallulah
Anaïs
Samantha
Pearl
Manon
Tabitha
Jemima
Anouk or Anoushka
Annika
Tamsin
Keziah
Ramona
Gloria

A rather long shortlist!

I love this list and my name is on it - NO baby girls were named it in 2020 so definitely unusual.

FKATondelayo · 14/09/2022 18:36

Aunt Jemima is a racial stereotype similar to Uncle Tom - although that association hasn't really hurt the latter's popularity. I wouldn't think it worth worrying about unless you're planning to emigrate to South Carolina.

I only have boys but would have loved to use:
Elodie
Margot / Margaret
Tess
Mary
Antonia
Jill
