I’m back for more help please! Thoughts on the following as a sibling for Iris:
Anthea
Maia
Julia
Other suggestions welcome. Dispute these choices I often prefer a name that doesn’t end in vowels. I’d like something kind of simple and not too try hard if that makes sense. A Greek or goddess name would also be cool in terms of ‘matching’ Iris-though not that important. Don’t want anything that sounds too old lady revival as I think it’d sound a bit too retirement home alongside Iris. Thanks!

Gaia might fit the bill. Otherwise, why don't you look at goddess names and pick one you like.

Thanks
I have looked but nothing seems quite right.

I don't like Maia.
Anthea is a bit lispy sounding, and there are lots of Theas and Theos. Athena is nicer.
Julia is fine but I don't like Jules/Jools.

Mumofgirls2017 · 11/09/2022 22:12

Julia. Anthea is very dated to me

auggestiobs

daphne
Diana
freya
juno
cleo
theia
talia
cassia
kaia
phoebe

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2022 20:54

Julia is lovely. Juliet a good suggestion too.

I can't abide Anthea, too lispy. Maia is too twee to go with the gorgeous, strong, Iris.

Vinylloving · 11/09/2022 20:39

I'm not keen on them sorry, especially Anthea which I don't like at all. Maia is just so popular and that spelling will always require explanation and correction. I would go for Juliet rather than Julia if pushed.
Athena or Allegra would suit Iris

Dreamingcats · 11/09/2022 20:36

I love Julia.
Cassandra nn Cassie?

Petesbowtie9 · 11/09/2022 20:34

Nina

sageandbasil · 11/09/2022 20:33

Juliet?

makinganavalon · 11/09/2022 20:33

I read Anthea as Athena, which I much prefer!

puddingandsun · 11/09/2022 20:30

Thea
Maia (but would spell Maja) is lovely too

Nova
Mira

Persephone?

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 20:03

They all seem a bit too …fussy(?)or not quite my vibe but thanks very much for making suggestions.

I did think about Zoe-quite like that thanks. Xanthe just seems a bit too different for me I think.

Anthea - I'm not a fan. Would you consider Anwen or Athena, Althea or possibly Dorothea?

Maia - it's ok just a bit meh to me

Julia - I'm not a fan again sorry

I know two Iris'. One has a sister called Emmeline and one has a sister called Xanthe

Something like Lorelei or Evangeline would go nicely too

MissBPotter · 11/09/2022 19:40

Julia is lovely. I also thought of Zoe and Xanthe which I think have Greek origins.

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 18:41

Thanks for the suggestions- I’d certainly like Juliet if I heard it on another child, but I find maybe a bit trendier the Julia which I’m less keen on.
Not so keen on Eliza.

Youweremybrotheranakin · 11/09/2022 18:30

What about Juliet instead of Julia?

I also think Eliza would go well with Iris ❤️

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/09/2022 18:26

I'm a fan of all your original choices as well as Julia .

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 18:20

And also Helena.Marianne and Miriam which I suggested on my previous thread but were quite divisive.

Thanks all. From peoples suggestions I like Diana, and Gaia but don’t think I’d use either of them.

Ariadne.

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/09/2022 17:54

I like Julia and think it goes very well with Iris, both elegant names.

Or maybe

Jocelyn
Inez
Frances
Elsbeth
Caroline
Marianne
Meredith
Clio
Adela
Philippa
Claudia
Cassia
Selina
Serena
Penelope nn Nell
Selene (Sell-ee-nee)

I wouldn’t use Maia/Mia/Maya just because it’s so overused and 3 different ways to say it.

Anthea I think is a bit lispy.

HuntingoftheSnark · 11/09/2022 16:33

I love Anthea. It reminds me of The Five Children and It - and another E Nesbitt book, can't recall which. I also really like Julia as a close second.

AdaColeman · 11/09/2022 16:31

Julia is my favourite from your list.

Other ideas...
Gaia
Romilly
Diana
Dido
