Clemency

Thoughts on Clemency as a sister to Jemima, Tabitha and Reuben? Would probably use nickname Cece rather than Clem/mie, but like both!

Also, middle name ideas?

I think Clementine or Clémence would be a much better choice.

ideasmirrour · 11/09/2022 17:05

What about one of:

Francesca
Clea
Christabel
Cecelia/Cecilia/Cecile/Cecilie?

Cece would work as a nickname for Cecilia of course; and also Francesca, IMO.

I’m always a bit undecided on Clemency. It’s a pretty sound but it also does make me think of medieval prisoners begging to be saved from execution 😂

Clemency is lovely, I adore virtue names.

Patience is nice too, and I know a beautiful little girl named Confidence

I adore virtue names also. I love Clemency.

I also love Honour.

And in a throwback to the very old virtue names I love Temperance and Deliverance.

I think Clemency works really well with the names of your other Dcs.

It's bloody awful.

⬆️ This.

partypingal · 11/09/2022 16:57

Clemency always shortened to Clemmie which sounds too much like clammy to me.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 11/09/2022 16:54

Not Clemency.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 11/09/2022 16:53

Francine if you like Cici?

(Hanging out with Cici - written by Francine Pascal of SVH fame! I loved it as a kid!)

oceanbleu · 11/09/2022 16:51

Pronounced clem-unce

oceanbleu · 11/09/2022 16:51

Or just Clemence?

Magenta82 · 11/09/2022 16:48

Reminds me of someone sentenced to death begging for their life.

mathanxiety · 11/09/2022 16:47

I associate it with pardons for inmates on death row. A reference to a horrible aspect of American life in other words.

If you think you'll use the NN Cece, then Cecelia is the obvious name to derive that from.

Other options:
Claudia
Cornelia
Caroline
Charlotte
Charis

Clemence is 'Clem-awnce'.

strawberry2017 · 11/09/2022 16:37

It's bloody awful.

itssquidstella · 11/09/2022 16:18

I love it.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 11/09/2022 16:16

My instinct with it is that it's makes me think she's condescending or in some imbalanced feudal position of power! It's just the image the words conjures for me. Like Prudence does to me too. Like they're somehow pious but not in a good way. (I think Enid Blyton might have influenced this!)

RuthW · 11/09/2022 16:11

It's lovely. Go for it

Spanielsarepainless · 11/09/2022 16:01

I like it. Middle names: Patricia, Frances, Jane.

Joolsin · 11/09/2022 15:50

Beautiful name and goes perfectly with your other DC.

BlueThingie · 11/09/2022 15:41

I really love Clemency, much more than any of the other Clem names. Makes me think of Youth and Age on Beaulieu River.

MN always brings up the death row thing but I know a few Clemencys IRL and have never thought of that.

wishing3 · 11/09/2022 15:37

I love Clemmy, but my brain thinks of Clemency as a word rather than a name.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 11/09/2022 15:33

Clementine is nicer, I think. And makes me think of Churchill's wife, who I read a book about and who seemed like a very cool lady.

ofwarren · 11/09/2022 15:30

I like the sound of it
Virtue names don't go down well on mumsnet unfortunately though.

VioletTopaz · 11/09/2022 15:19

I really like Clemency. Beautiful name.

cheeseandpeanutbutter · 11/09/2022 15:19

I'd prefer Cecily or Cecile and you could still have Ceci as a nn

PatienceHeatherstone · 11/09/2022 15:17

What about Grace or Gracie? Or Charity? Or Verity?

Silverpossum · 11/09/2022 15:15

To me it sounds like a deeply religious name from c1900.
