Laurence or Benjamin?

Babynameangst · 09/09/2022 23:35

I like:
Laurence Jasper

Or

Benjamin Eden / Rory / Skye / something else?
(Feel it is unwise to choose Jasper due to "BJ")

Our surname begins with C and is 2 syllables. Prefer a traditional first name with a contrasting middle. No objection to gender neutral or feminine sounding names.

For various reasons have ruled out Nate, Jude, Robin, Kit, Finn and Leo as middles (but we like these)

What are your thoughts? Benjamin vs Laurence and on middle names for either (most especially for Benjamin?)

Laurence. I also prefer Lawrence spelling.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 05/05/2023 06:48

I prefer Laurence or Lawrence.

Laurence sounds perfect with Benjamin.
Laurence Benjamin CXXX 10/10 - and it looks handsome.
Laurence Jasper CXXX 7/10 - sounds a little squeakier.

Benjamin Charles CXXX 10/10
Benjamin Larkspur CXXX 9/10
Benjamin Lloyd CXXX 9/10
Benjamin Laurence CXXX 10/10

@Lilacsunflowers maybe if you’re French. But Laurence is very much a male name in the UK. Goes back generations in my family.

BloodyCamping · 05/05/2023 06:32

Love Lawrence or Laurence.

Elspethelf · 05/05/2023 06:26

I like the nicknames for Benjamin better, Benny or Benji. Laurence is lovely but I’m not keen on Laurie.

how about Benjamin Alec?

CalpolOnToast · 04/05/2023 22:10

Laurence Valentine

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/05/2023 22:04

I love Laurence, either as it is or with Laurie as a diminutive

Benjamin is very nice but the world is full of Bens

Eden and Skye are really girls names (and the latter v popular) so don’t do that.

KirstenBlest · 17/09/2022 12:59

Benjamin. Eden and Skye are girl's names

WildfellAnne · 17/09/2022 12:58

Laurence.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/09/2022 12:48

Laurence

sageandbasil · 17/09/2022 12:47

Benjamin is just such a dull name IMO. Much prefer Lawrence

Shmithecat2 · 17/09/2022 10:18

Love Benjamin, but don't like any of the middle names. Laurence is ok.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/09/2022 23:54

Laurence - very underused

Ben is nice but oh so many of them

if you have a nice family name I’d use that, or

Laurence Rufus

Laurence Jethro

Laurence Silas

Laurence Rory

Laurence Rowan

Laurence Silas sounds like a serial killer.

Benjamin then he can go by Ben if he wants to

LookdeepintotheParka · 16/09/2022 20:35

Laurence is great - underused and classic.

I really love it shortened to Laurie. My friend has a baby Laurie and have an older friend with this name too ☺️

cptartapp · 15/09/2022 15:39

Benjamin Lawrence

Titsflyingsouth · 15/09/2022 15:33

Lawrence is absolutely lovely (but prefer the w spelling.)

Lilacsunflowers · 11/09/2022 20:34

Am I the only one who regards Laurence as a woman's name (Lor ENCE), the feminine version of Laurent?!

blondie87 · 11/09/2022 19:42

Laurence

GlassDeli · 10/09/2022 23:43

Laurence

wishing3 · 10/09/2022 23:01

I love Laurence and would be on my list but not right with surname. Like Ben too, but not so keen on Benjamin.

dementedma · 10/09/2022 20:36

Definitely Laurence. Its a great name

LosttheremoteAGAIN · 10/09/2022 16:29

Benjamin Daniel
benjamin joshua
benjamin adam
benjamin thomas
benjamin samuel
benjamin jack
benjamin philip
benjamin robert
benjamin nathan
benjamin Matthew

Lilacsunflowers · 10/09/2022 16:09

Laurie is very feminine. I only know girls and women called Laurie (short for Lauren and Laura).

I'd shorten Lawrence to Lawrie

StopFeckingFaffing · 10/09/2022 08:53

I would go for Laurence as Benjamin / Ben has been very popular for past 40 odd years so sounding a bit tired/ boring now

Laurence is lovely. I'm not a fan on Jasper particularly but don't object to it as a middle name. James or John would be my preferred alternative but I accept these are very overused too!
