Lumi is Finnish for Snow and is pronounced Loo-mee. Have always had a soft spot for Winter but I know it's not everyone's taste.

What would you choose out of the two?

What about Noele. Pronounced No-Lee

No-Lee??? I have never heard this pronunciation. It's usually No-Ell.

I like Winter and Lumi! All the comments here suggest Lumi wouldn't work well. Winter is pretty.

Smilla's sense of snow -> Smilla

Taiga
Eira or Eirwen as mentioned before or Eirlys
Snowdrop
Alba
Krista
Kirsi (means both Christian and frost in Finnish)
Frost
Ice

Lumi is what influencers call their overpriced pedigree cats.

Winter is ok I suppose.

Lunabun · 08/09/2022 22:34

I think Winter is too on the nose, and I really want to like Lumi as it's very pretty but unfortunately I can only think of my alarm clock.

If pushed I'd go for Lumi, though.

IMustMakeAmends · 08/09/2022 22:28

Christ alive, they are both AWFUL

Christ-alive does fit with the christmassy theme although it's a little on the nose.

I do know a winter baby called Neiva which is snow in Spanish, I believe? I always thought Natalia was pretty.

Lumi is not nice.

mrslees1 · 08/09/2022 22:15

Winter! Gorgeous name

BiscuitLover3678 · 08/09/2022 22:13

I love Lumi. I also love the fact so many people don’t like it on here. Makes it far more interesting! Everyone will associate it with her name.

dottypencilcase · 08/09/2022 22:06

Lumi= SAD alarm clock.

Isahlo · 08/09/2022 21:28

I’m so sorry op, but lumi is a self cleaning toilet brush, or a lumie alarm clock or shortening for lumi spa Or like a Phillips lumea I love the name wynter or winter tho

timoteigirl · 08/09/2022 21:22

@ElizaSkye never had I considered Clementine as a Christmassy wintry name but you are right!

ElizaSkye · 08/09/2022 21:13

I actually like both! I think I see Winter as more masculine but can totally imagine it would work on a girl and like Winn too.

I’m due end of November and on the off chance it snows I’d use Neve in the middle I think.

Clementine?

timoteigirl · 08/09/2022 20:42

I think Winter could be mistaken for the surname. I dismissed Lumi because it is linked to gadgets or Harry Potter Luminosa! luminious - light. I would have loved Lumilla which is a form of Ludmila but my partner didn't like it. Lumilla with a nickname Milla / Mila?

ElephantePicante · 08/09/2022 20:35

Neither. Awful.

Imabitbusyatthemoment · 08/09/2022 19:50

I love Winter.

Kanaloa · 08/09/2022 19:49

I prefer Winter. I’ve looked after a few children named this and it’s very wearable in my opinion, compared with Lumi.

Loulou1712 · 08/09/2022 19:47

DD2 middle name is Wynter - she really suits the quirky twist.
I like lumi in theory, but others comments have put me off a bit.

Cotswoldmama · 08/09/2022 19:21

I love them both! When some people think of winter they think of a cold and miserable scene. I don't, I think of crisp snow crunching underfoot and being the first to walk in it. I think of cosy scarves and hats, of hot chocolate, open fires, rosy red cheeks and Christmas. Lumi is very cute too but maybe a bit too cute for an adult?

HilarityEnsues · 08/09/2022 19:05

What about something meaning Light, like Lucia, Lucy, Nora and so on? Lumi is lovely too.

KirstenBlest · 08/09/2022 19:02

They don't mean the same either.

KirstenBlest · 08/09/2022 18:43

Eira is indeed the Welsh word for snow, and is used as a girl's name.
It's also a norwegian name.

The pronunciation is not the same for them.

Chakraleaf · 08/09/2022 18:27

My friend has a Lumi :)

Yutes · 08/09/2022 18:24

I like them.
what about Eira (I think it means snow on Welsh, I’m sure someone cleverer can correct me Wink)

I like Aster or Wren or Robyn

You could consider Jan(uary) or North

Spanielsarepainless · 08/09/2022 18:22

I speak a little Finnish but I wouldn't use either. Lumi sounds like a mobile 'phone, Winter just silly.

Changedname81 · 08/09/2022 18:18

I really like Lumen but no one else will 😃

KirstenBlest · 08/09/2022 11:17

Both of them are awful. Glumi and bleak midWinter
