Name that can be said two ways

RuthW · 04/09/2022 21:39

Just for fun as I'm never going to be naming another baby.

Some names I would avoid as I like them said one way but others say another way.

Aaron
Evelyn
Megan
Esme
Michelle
Clementine
Naomi
Rene

There are loads more, but can't think of any more at the moment.

Always been ez-mee until the last ten years or so when it's turned into ez-may

Never heard of an ez-mee. I grew up around a few older ladies with the name and they were always ez-may.

I have never known 2 ways to say any of these names in the original post - I don’t understand 🤯 where in the world do you stay? @RuthW

Aaron - think it's ah-un vs air-un
Evelyn - eve-lyn vs ever-lyn
Megan - Meg-an vs me-gan
Esme - es-me vs es-may
No idea on the rest

I love the name Andrea pronounced Arn-dray-a, but in England it's pronounced And-ree-a.

Does anyone actually say Mee-shell or was that just a once off to fit with the song?

A family friend growing up had a cousin who pronounced it like that so yes, although uncommon I think.

ChessieFL · 05/09/2022 06:18

Megan can be pronounced MEE-gan (not very often though). Megan Follows who played Anne in the classic Anne of Green Gables programme pronounces her name this way.

Helena (Hell-en-a or Hel-ay-na)
Louis (Lou-ee or Lew-is)

And I'm pretty sure the standard pronunciation of Ciara is the same as Kiera.

Chiara is Italian and pronounced key-ara, but I don't know any Ciaras who use this pronunciation.

EdgeOfACoin · 05/09/2022 05:43
