Is Lydia a nice name

Dixie29 · 04/09/2022 12:31

Baby girl is already here and still not 100% settled on a name..
We are leaning towards Lydia (middle name Hope) but something is not clicking, we keep doubting it for some reason.
My partner really likes Willow which is a lovely name but I have a few reservations.
Other than that we don't have a lot of other options!

Any opinions on Lydia would be great!

That's just daft. Everything rhymes with something else if you try hard enough.

DD was at school with a Lydia and she never got teased. It remains a beautiful name.

all I can think is chlamydia unfortunately (and kids, teens even adults can be cruel!)
it is such a shame because Lydia (if chlamydia wasn’t an STI name) is really pretty.

So for that I much prefer Willow. What are your reservations about the name?@Dixie29 Potential nn issues arising?

Aixenprov · 11/09/2022 08:44

Lydia is lovely and nicer than willow

RuthW · 11/09/2022 07:57

Lydia is ok.

Willow is lovely

MsTSwift · 11/09/2022 07:47

Lydia Hope is lovely! I would avoid Willow - hell of a risk if there’s even a chance she will be of a more sturdy build. Feel the same about Grace. I was at school with a very large Willow and it seemed a cruel name and my neighbours teenage Grace is very much not graceful in any way.

Suttonmum2022 · 11/09/2022 07:43

I have a daughter called Lydia and when this first happened I simply corrected people. It has never happened since and she gets called Lydia (she’s now 8). All names can be shortened if you want them to be.

Suttonmum2022 · 11/09/2022 07:41

We have a Lydia. Such a lovely name. In my opinion it sounds nothing like Linda. We have also never met any other children with the name. I also love the name Claudia x

DramaAlpaca · 05/09/2022 21:20

Lydia is gorgeous, so much nicer than Willow.

TimeToGoUpAGear · 05/09/2022 21:20

I like both but I know a child called Wollow who is amazingly intelligent, polite and cute so that would be my preference due to bias!

Suzi888 · 05/09/2022 21:18

Willow - Ron Howard.

Love Lydia.

Sunflower987 · 05/09/2022 21:17

Lydia is a lovely name.

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/09/2022 21:16

Lydia is lovely, much nicer than Willow.

However, Lyvia is one of my favourite names. Worth considering?

MissDollyMix · 05/09/2022 21:16

I always think it sounds like an amalgamation of chlamydia and labia. Not helped by the fact that DH had a friend called Lydia who was an absolute tool. So, it’s a no from me.

santastolemycat · 05/09/2022 21:16

I like willow.
Everytime I hear the name lydia I immediately think lydia teapot in my head 🤣 and it cracks me up everytime.

Lulibee · 05/09/2022 21:13

Lydia is lovely, I personally wouldn’t want to be named Willow

AverageJoan · 05/09/2022 21:13

Love Lydia

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/09/2022 21:11

I adore Lydia, and Hope. If DS had been DD2, he'd have been Hope.

Jammymare · 05/09/2022 21:10

Medee · 04/09/2022 12:59

It’s pretty enough, but my mind jumps to Aunt Lydia in Handmaid’s Tale.

This.

And I could pretty much guarantee that if they had been at my school in the early 2000s they’d have been nicknamed Lydia Chlamydia. Hopefully bullying isn’t so rife now though.

Moonflower12 · 05/09/2022 21:06

Lydia! Its a classic but underused.
I've worked with a couple and they've both been so lovely.

VickerishAllsort · 05/09/2022 21:03

Love, love, love Lydia.
It would have been DS' name if he'd been a girl.
If he chose it for his daughter, due any day, I'd be well chuffed.

NoodleSnow · 04/09/2022 13:18

It’s a lovely name. It does make me think of the Muppets singing ‘Lydia the Tattooed Lady’ though.

You beat me to it!

Vinylloving · 05/09/2022 15:56

I've never liked the name Lydia if I'm honest. It sounds a bit harsh and I haven't liked the Lydias I've known! I know that's a bit irrational but it is what it is! It's neither a pretty name or a strong female name to me. I associate it with frumpiness

locke360 · 05/09/2022 15:53

Lydia sounds a bit dated to me - I much prefer Willow. Horses for courses though. Both are perfectly good names.

DeeDeeDaisy · 05/09/2022 15:50

Lydia Hope sounds lovely, way better than Willow. In fact Lydia was on our list!

GreyGoose1980 · 05/09/2022 15:46

Love the name Lydia
