What class do you associate Alfie with?

I have a dog called Alfie. Alfred when he’s being a dick.

HTH. 😁

Fairly classless because it's pretty bland (which isn't a criticism. If you like that sort of name though it's going to be relatively classless).
Fits with James / George / Thomas etc.

It’s short for Alfred isn’t it which is quite posh.

Alfred is posh Grin

Alfred often nn Alfie was incredibly popular at the end of the 19th century, across the spectrum. Since it came out of the 100 year sojourn in the wilderness names usually have, so lovely hearing it as it has a very dear association for me with one of the 19th C contingent. He was most definitely an Alfie (only becoming Alfred when in trouble, according to him)

Longwinded way of saying who gives a stuff what "class" it is now meant to belong to. I'd make it officially Alfred, so you have something to use when he's in trouble Grin

It’s a perfectly nice name. A young Michael Caine jumps to mind when I hear it, but I’m quite Old and a YMC isn’t a bad thing anyway.

georgarina · 02/09/2022 10:30

Yes and no - it's a bit of a Burberry - I associate it with both ends of the spectrum.

Who cares? I hate this 'class' obsession in the Uk.

I don't like Alfie at all btw

FayCarew · 02/09/2022 10:01

If you put Alfred on the BC, then it will be classless. You could also use Alfredo or Alfonso or something.
The MC Alfred I know gets called Alfred.

MuddlerInLaw · 02/09/2022 09:48

Cod working class. It’s the sort of name film stars or lead singers in globally adored bands can give their children, safe in the knowledge that while the name sounds down to earth, their nepo-baby will inherit the earth.

Orangio · 02/09/2022 09:47

I don't understand the class system as we don't have it where I live (thank the heavens) but if you like Alfie, use it. Why be constrained by an outdated system designed to control people?

Wouldloveanother · 02/09/2022 09:47

Who cares?

  1. If you're an insufferable snob and wannabe social climber yourself, then maybe
  2. None because I'm not in the 1) category.
How about you?
