Thoughts on Taliesin?

DH has proposed this as a middle name for DS. I'm on the fence as our surname gets a lot of 'how do you spell that?' and is often mispronounced.

DS' first name is in the top 100 (as of 2020) although I've never met someone with his name but it is quite easily spelt and pronounced.

Hi, I have a Taliesin, (or Tal/Tali!) We were initially drawn to the bard's name through connections with Arthurian legend.

It suits him. Sometimes people spell it incorrectly but this always makes us chuckle.

It's warmed my heart to see it being considered Smile

If you are Welsh or have a Welsh connection then it's a massive yes. It's a fabulous, strong name with a great history. I love the Mabinogion.

If DD had been a boy she’d have been Taliesin (Tal for short). I love it - yes I’m Welsh and live in Wales.

Merryclaire · 31/08/2022 06:34

These days I think it’s mostly known as being Frank Lloyd Wright’s estate but that was named for his Welsh roots. A strong name anyway.

RealDeeBliss · 30/08/2022 22:54

Love it

Cindie943811A · 30/08/2022 22:48

I love Taliesin. Really not difficult to spell.

ideasmirrour · 30/08/2022 22:48

I love it!

KnickerlessParsons · 30/08/2022 22:44

Love it! But I'm 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

feathermucker · 30/08/2022 22:38

My friend has a Taliesin. I love the name.

DramaAlpaca · 30/08/2022 22:37

For a middle name, fabulous.

CornedBeef451 · 30/08/2022 22:29

I like it! He'll rarely have to spell out his middle name.

GlamGiraffe · 30/08/2022 22:24

With a complicated surname its going to be a pain for your child to have a tricky middle name too. I wouldn't inflict it personally. There are other unusual names which are a bit more obvious both to spell and read&pronounce.

WishDragon · 30/08/2022 22:21

I really like it. Have you a Welsh connection?

AliBaliBears · 30/08/2022 22:21

There was a Taliesin on Child of Our Time. That's the only time I've come across the name. I think it's a nice middle name and would assume you were Welsh.

minipie · 30/08/2022 22:19

I know one who has a Welsh parent. It’s a great name and Tal is a fab, easy short form for friends etc to use.

However if you have no Welsh connection it would be an odd choice.

Unfortunately I misread it and thought it said taliban.

Haha me too re taliban.

It’s a very ‘statement’ name OP, like Merlin, very Glastonbury crowd. Not awful but I would keep musing.

KirstenBlest · 30/08/2022 21:19

@SpringIntoChaos , Tal-YESS-in (Tal like in Tally)

2manycats · 30/08/2022 21:17

Makes me think of Critical Role 😊

DeadButDelicious · 30/08/2022 21:15

It's the name of a biker group in my area. I probably wouldn't based on that. But it's a nice name!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 30/08/2022 21:14

I like it. Sounds quite mystical and hippyish. Would make for an interesting middle name.

SignOnTheWindow · 30/08/2022 21:14

As in the Welsh bard? I like it.

TempsPerdu · 30/08/2022 21:13

I quite like it, but probably wouldn’t be adventurous enough to choose it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/08/2022 21:13

I met a 3 month old Taliesin a few days ago! I hadn't thought of this name for years, since I stopped living in Wales. It is a lovely, historical name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/08/2022 21:12

I really like it. I first heard it years ago on that TV show 'child of our time', although at first I thought they were saying Talisman but I really liked it even then lol

BestIsWest · 30/08/2022 21:12

I love it. Have known a few.
