Between 4 boys names.. if you had to pick?

Danish family connection hence slight spelling choice

First.. are these too boring / unbelievably common? There were about 5 of "us" in my year group at school and it's never really been that much of an issue for me, but I'd still prefer to have a slightly less common name than that.

then any strong thoughts or preferences? Our baby is likely to grow up to be WELL over 6ft tall and quite well built with our genes so think something that would suit him..

Thanks

Oscar / Oskar
Max (long name tbd)
Leo
Felix

All of these are lovely. Another suggestion is Magnus - seems apt given prospective height!

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 28/08/2022 10:13

I like them all so I don't think you can go wrong! I have 3 boys ranging from baby to 5 years old and I'd say Leo is definitely the most popular on that list based on school, nursery and friends. I really like Max but I've always had a soft spot for Oscar too, so I'm going to vote for that!

Oscar! Such a friendly name. Don’t know any.

Considered along with Max but we have an H surname so Max becomes Mack S-surname.

Leos are everywhere.

Felix just not for me.

EleanorShellstrop28 · 28/08/2022 09:50

They're all lovely and you can't go wrong.

I don't know which one I'd choose. They're all really nice.

Honestly, yes this this list of names is boring and popular. The 'five in a year group' is less common these days as fewer people are choosing the most popular names (73% of babies had a top hundred name in 1996, compared with 48% in 2020). That's partially area dependent, as if you live in a large multicultural area you are more likely to encounter a wider range of names than if you live rurally where all the children are called George and Sophie.

Oscar / Oskar - Oscar was 7th most popular name in England and Wales in 2020, and Oskar was 251st. Combining the spellings puts it above Leo in 6th. Oscar peaked a few years ago and as such feels a bit tired and overdone.
Max (long name tbd) - Max was 33rd in England and Wales in 2020. Adding all of the Max names puts it at 15th. Max feels the blandest on your list to me.
Leo - 6th most popular in England and Wales in 2020. Inoffensive, but not very interesting.
Felix - 77th in England and Wales in 2020, but rising, whereas the other names are either stable or declining in popularity. By far my favourite from your list, Felix is a great name and I love the meaning as well.

I like them all except Oscar.

My top choice is Leo.

Decide when he’s born, it’s hard to choose when you haven’t looked into his eyes yet.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 28/08/2022 08:20

Felix

biggreenhouse · 28/08/2022 08:18

@Beautifulsunflowers yep think we will keep those 3 and hope one of them looks right

All are lovely except Felix!
it’s ok to have a few names to choose from - then when he’s born look at his cute face and you can decide.

Purpleavocado · 28/08/2022 08:10

I like all of them except for Felix

Thank you. i'm clearly hormonal but I was in tears last night over not being able to decide and worrying about making a terrible choice 😁
