Between 4 boys names.. if you had to pick?

biggreenhouse · 28/08/2022 08:01

Danish family connection hence slight spelling choice

First.. are these too boring / unbelievably common? There were about 5 of "us" in my year group at school and it's never really been that much of an issue for me, but I'd still prefer to have a slightly less common name than that.

then any strong thoughts or preferences? Our baby is likely to grow up to be WELL over 6ft tall and quite well built with our genes so think something that would suit him..

Thanks

Oscar / Oskar
Max (long name tbd)
Leo
Felix

Leo is my favourite but all nice

Felix Oskar

probably not a great idea to pair those names given the Neil Simon play and subsequent adaptations.

WinniePig · 29/08/2022 04:16

If I had to pick one, I think I would go with Oscar/Oskar (followed by Max then Leo then Felix).

WinniePig · 29/08/2022 04:13

Great list of names OP! I don’t think any of those names are massively common; it’s just down to chance sometimes re whether you end up with more than one in a class. FWIW the popular names in DS10 year are Ethan, Isaac, Jake and Arthur.

Pemba · 29/08/2022 03:44

I really like Oskar and Max, I like Leo.

I don't like Felix so much, I get the image of someone who is a bit fey and sinister. Plus the cartoon cat and the brand of cat food.

perimenofertility · 29/08/2022 03:04

All lovely names but all very popular. Nothing wrong with that but you mention wanting something less popular.
My favourite would be Oskar.
With your Danish connection, what about Aske? Similar pronunciation, different meaning (Ash) and less popular.

octoberfarm · 29/08/2022 02:54

Love Leo!

Newuser82 · 29/08/2022 02:49

Leo!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/08/2022 02:31

All lovely, likely all statistically quite popular for that reason - but these days there's enough variety in names he'd still stand a good chance of being the only one in his class even if you went for the most popular imo (although obviously there'll probably be others in the whole school/at clubs/sports) .

I'd probably go with Max - feels the most classic of the four to me, also nice and simple. But yes Magnus could still have the nn Max, if you wanted something much less commonplace with links to your Danish/Scandi heritage.

GiltEdges · 28/08/2022 19:28

I like Max, particularly if the long for is Maximus

Lacey247 · 28/08/2022 19:26

I think Oscar and felix sound like cat names. I couldn’t imagine a grown man named felix

Spiider · 28/08/2022 17:26

Love Leo, Max and Oscar - were our top 3 names. Also don’t know more than 1 of any. No duplicates in my sons year at school.

LSSG · 28/08/2022 16:51

I like Leo or Max. Picked one of them for ours, appreciate it's deemed popular but don't know any at all myself, which was important to us, and well we just like the name! I found boys' names hard. Many that I think are nice enough names wouldn't have suited our boy.

WildCherryBlossom · 28/08/2022 16:26

Gorgeous list of names. I wouldn't decide until you meet him (but Felix is my favourite). I think Magnus would be a great addition to the list for a baby Viking too.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 28/08/2022 15:52

They are all fine names. But round here, every cockapoo etc seems to be called Oscar.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/08/2022 15:45

I think I'd choose Oskar
If he's of Viking heritage, I think Magnus is good
Caspar?

Crikeyalmighty · 28/08/2022 15:42

Max

DarkDarkNight · 28/08/2022 15:41

Felix or Leo.

RuthW · 28/08/2022 15:35

Felix

JadeSeahorse · 28/08/2022 15:30

biggreenhouse · 28/08/2022 14:33

@JadeSeahorse haha yes his dad and uncles are all around 6ft 6 and look like vikings.

Well in that case he sounds like a lush Ragnar! ♥️

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2022 15:06

Leo is my favourite by far.

Felix definitely my least favourite.

WishDragon · 28/08/2022 15:03

Leo and Felix.

I know so so many Oscar’s.

MakeWayMoana · 28/08/2022 15:03

I have a Max who’s the only one in his year group of 120 kids. There are two boys called Felix in his class, and another felix in another class in the same year. Conversely there are no Leos and only one Oscar.

You just can’t predict if there will be more than one in their class, so just go with what you like.

Jamaisy82 · 28/08/2022 14:58

I like them all. It depends on your surname too, do they all go well with it? I think Leo or max. It's good to have a name that stands the test of time. Will it sound good when they are a baby and will it suited when they are a grandpa.
