Boys Names - Elliott or Blake

Hi, Can anyone offer their preference over these names? I know names are very unique to the individual. I'm looking for a name that is a little different to the traditional names out there but not too 'out there' & have settled on either of these, feeling they could both work. Just wondered which is nicer? I also don't want a name that can be shortened and feel these offer that. Thank you x

I much prefer Elliot but I might be biased as I used to have a absolutely stunning DCat with that name. All round Beautiful DCat and much admired Wink

I have a Blake, he's 7 - love his name, there's only one other in his year at school. Never get any negative comments about it, only positive and, I've never heard of it being a 'naughty boys' name and if it is, he definitely does not live up to it.

Elliot (one T). Elliott looks wrong to me. It’s a surname spelling, I think.
Blake is OK, but too surnamey for me.

Blake makes me think Dynasty (because I am quite old) or just naff made up name like Jayden or something.

Thank you all for replying, really apprecaited despite the different views. Never thought of Quentin Blake (which is a nice connection). Like a few mentioned, the negative I feel with Blake is whether it's quite a harsh/cold name but I had wondered if it was me just overthinking it as I like that's a little different and can't be shortened. But it seems a few also think that. Ellis - that is my partner's brother's sons name so is out for us. With Elliott, I had never belived it could be shortened but I've been naive as someone else mentioned Elliott became El when he got older which doesn't appeal to me. I love Oliver but dislike Ollie and why that's not a choice anymore. I do think also Elliott is quite a classy name. My partner liked Jude but I still think Elliott is nicer than that too x

I prefer Elliott and would consider it for a future DS. I do like Blake and it is probably the more unusual of the two

I loved Elliot (prefer one t) but showing my age a bit, for me it has a very strong connotation with ET (not a bad one)

I think both are nice names but prefer Blake. I knew an Elliot (known as El) in my teens who I read about in the paper as he went on to do bad things, so I have a negative connection with that name, but have never met a Blake. Blake just makes me think of Quentin Blake and his fabulous artwork.

I like both but Blake is more unusual to me. I have never met a Blake. Just know Blake’s 7 series which I loved! Elliott just makes me want to do an ET impression.

Elliott is lovely. Forgive me for clunky wording, but imo it is a classy name with a soft yet masculine sound.

Blake just sounds very harsh to my ears.

Both are good names. I also liked the previous poster's suggestion of Ellis. We have an Owen as like you we wanted a name that wasn't too out there and also not too popular and it works well for our ds. We also liked Toby.

I suppose I'm basing it on my daughter's school and classes but it's only a small sample in reality! Luckily, I don't have any connections to either which is why Elliott has become a top choice for me but I appreciate it's potentially popular elsewhere. I do prefer Blake to Jake - again, only as I think it's a little more different. Just not sure if Blake is a bit of a direct/harsh name which is probably the only negative I see in the name. Elliott is a bit more common than Blake I believe and sits more on the traditional side to names which again is the negative I see in that name. Thank you for your reply. x

Elliott is one of my favourite boys names but you're kidding yourself if you think it's 'a little different'. It's very popular! I saw it everywhere when I taught supply and there were 2 in my son's nursery.

Blake is also lovely. Have you considered Jake?

I prefer Elliott to Blake but the bar is pretty low as I hate Blake. Not really a fan of either, sorry.
