Doreen alternatives

Less than 4 weeks until my due date and we still haven't been able to figure out a middle name for our baby girl!

My grandmas name was Doreen and I'd love to have something similar. I've considered "Dora" but the baby's first name ends in "a" and I think it sounds too similar.

Does anyone have any ideas please?Smile

I'd just use Doreen, I agree with other posters that it's not really honouring your grandma if you choose another name a bit similar because you don't like her actual name.

I'd use Doreen. If you're not sure about it or don't think it flows with the first name you've picked, maybe consider multiple middles - e.g., Anna Elizabeth Doreen Lastname. If your grandma used a nickname - for example Dory or Reenie - that could work as a middle too.

I used to work with a Dorinda and I think it's really nice, especially as a middle, but it wasn't your grandma's name.

If you are using it to honour your grandma then use Doreen , any other name won’t do the same job . It’s a middle name and frankly lots of kids have less than desirable middle names because of honouring relatives .

I'd just use Doreen. Or if you really hate the name then don't use it. But the idea that you hate someone's name, but find the closest sounding name that you can stand and then say it's named after them doesn't make sense to me.

Or Rene is another classic shortening. Prefer Dorrie though myself, probably because of the Patrica Coombs books TBH
