So here are mine and DP’s top 3 lists.

Mine are (in order of preference) Indie, Eden and Piper.

His are (in order) Quinn, Norah and Nola

My name is Laura so I’m not sure how I feel about Norah.

DS loves River, which I like but babies surname is a type of weed so I think it makes it sound silly.

Thoughts?

I love Eden and Nola.

They're similar in style imo - a bit boho and both graceful.

Quinn is nice too.

I like Norah, but maybe since your name is Laura it's a bit too close.

Piper I'm not too keen on. It's nice for a small child or a young woman up to age 23 or so but I can't see a middle aged Piper in my mind's eye.

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2022 20:32

@Pemba , What's your accent?

Does Paul and Pole sound the same?

perimenofertility · 18/08/2022 20:31

Eden and Nola are my top choices from your list. I do love the name Norah but agree it's to rhymy with your own name.

Pemba · 18/08/2022 20:30

Dunno what happened there! Anyway they all rhyme, they all have the same 'or' sound in the middle. It's different accents I would guess. Are you Scottish?

PrimroseWharf · 18/08/2022 20:29

Norah and Laura could be quite sweet. Surely you will be Mummy most of the time anyway. I’m not keen on any of your other names although I like India nn Indie. Other suggestions:

Zara
Clara
Tess
Erin
Cora
Phoebe
Wren
Nina
Hazel
Ada
Thea
Willa

Pemba · 18/08/2022 20:28

Kirsten, to me Laura, Maura, Dora, Cora,

Connie2468 · 18/08/2022 20:28

I like Eden and Nola.

I know lots of little Edens though if popularity is a consideration.

KirstenBlest · 18/08/2022 20:19

I don't say Laura as Lorah or Norah as Naura.
I wouldn't say Flora as Flaura

They are too alike though

Tonz · 18/08/2022 20:15

I like Piper and Eden

20viona · 18/08/2022 20:15

Love Quinn and Piper. How about Ember?

Whataretheodds · 18/08/2022 20:11

Stella
Astrid
Xanthe
Pippa

Libmama · 18/08/2022 20:06

When I say Laura and Norah they rhyme… I don’t see how they don’t maybe it’s my accent!

Thank you for all your opinions I think you’ve all suitable put me off Quinn so I’m going to veto that when DP gets back!

I do like Indie but I am aware it’s universally not liked on mumsnet. I still love Eden and Piper.

Honestly, I wouldn't type cast baby as a tomboy and worry about names being too girly

I am not really a girly girl, and always imagined myself with boy babies, and then I had DD1 and DD2, they're obsessed with tutu, bows in their hair and frozen 🙈

I like piper alot, either shortened to pipes or pip

How about;
Wren
Tahlia / Talia/ Thalia

FindingMeno · 18/08/2022 19:57

I really like Eden ( or Enid)

Pebblebeach15 · 18/08/2022 19:54

I teach 2 girls called Eden . I think it’s lovely . Never heard either shortened . One is 11 and one is 15 .

RedDiamond · 18/08/2022 19:54

If you are already imagining your daughter as a tomboy, then why not give her a feminine name that can be shortened to a masculine name?

Georgina - George - Georgie
Harriet - Harry
Nicola - Nick - Nicky - Nikki
Andrea - Andy
Samantha - Sam

Loads more.

KirstenBlest · 18/08/2022 19:54

@Pemba , It doesn't rhyme in the way that Laura and Maura, or Norah and Cora do

KirstenBlest · 18/08/2022 19:52

All names get shortened.
Piper will probably be Pipe or Pipes

Beryl might suit a boisterous tomboy

Pemba · 18/08/2022 19:52

I like Eden and quite like Norah (but it will be a bit daft for your family as it rhymes with Laura - how does it not quite rhyme, as a pp said?). I don't mind Piper.

I am sorry, but I think Indie and Quinn are terrible.

Libmama · 18/08/2022 19:43

I think Quinn sounds more like a boys name to be fair. I’m not keen on any of DP’s suggestions but I can’t veto all of them 😫

Yes I think Indie is becoming a bit too popular maybe… I like Piper maybe with shortening to Pip?

KirstenBlest · 18/08/2022 19:43

Oo as too, na as in Nina. Oona. Nice and simple.
Nina is lovely.

PatsyJStone · 18/08/2022 19:40

Eden, Piper like and not too many around that I've come across. Eden can stay Eden or be Edie. Whereas Piper probably wouldn't be shortened often.

Quinn sounds like a US name - no negativity there, definitely different, more unique if you are in the UK.

Norah maybe a bit Beryl, Mavis, Evelyn fashion of the moment but not for me.

Indie, lots of India & Indies around, like it but could be the Sharon, Tracey, Michelle of my childhood.

Really not sure on Nola, for me sounds made up. It's ok though!

Amdone123 · 18/08/2022 19:39

I love Eden and Piper. Also, Quinn.

Eden is my favourite, love Edie nn.

Libmama · 18/08/2022 19:35

Oh-na or Uuh-na
