Madeline

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 18/08/2022 17:02

Matilda, unfortunately the other name only reminds me of poor Maddie McCann

MushMonster · 18/08/2022 17:01

Matilda

Stropalotopus83 · 18/08/2022 16:59

Depending on your surname, I actually really like Madeleine Matilda [Surname].

WishDragon · 18/08/2022 16:54

Madeleine. I really dislike Matilda and it was so overused a few years back. Also really don’t like Tilly as a nickname, it’s so wet.

ButterRose · 18/08/2022 15:51

Matilda or maybe Adeline I'm not a fan of Madeleine

FolornLawn · 18/08/2022 15:33

Matilda wears plaits and a dirndl. Madeleine has a sleek bob, wide leg trousers and works in a gallery in Paris.

SammySueTwo · 18/08/2022 15:27

My DD would have been Madeleine had it not been for the poor McCann girl.

Madeleine is classier, makes me think of Madeleine Stowe.

I've always thought Matilda is an ugly name, although I love the Roald Dahl character.

CornflakesOnTheSolesOfHerShoes · 18/08/2022 15:10

Madeleine’s beautiful. I’ve never really liked Matilda as a name, and I don’t like Tilly. Both have excellent children’s book namesakes though!

pimlicoanna · 18/08/2022 14:56

Matilda. I can't get past the McCann association for Madeleine

PrimroseWharf · 18/08/2022 14:53

I like both but prefer the nicknames for Matilda

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/08/2022 14:51

Matilda

Just because I don’t like Maddy and it’s hard to avoid

toastofthetown · 18/08/2022 09:45

Madeleine. Matilda has been so popular recently that it feels tired and a bit passé to me. Madeleine feels a more elegant choice.

MushroomQueen · 18/08/2022 09:43

Matilda - I wanted for my girl but our close friend has Matilde (live in Portugal) and for same reason living in Portugal can't have madeleine too much association for me - it's a beautiful name tho

Thefruitbatdancer · 18/08/2022 09:31

Madeline but also Adeline is much more beautiful and rarer and doesn't remind you so much of Madeline McC.

BeachBonfiresAndGuitars · 18/08/2022 09:29

I think Madeleine is lovely. I don’t like Matilda.

Goringa · 18/08/2022 09:25

i adore both!

EkinWho · 17/08/2022 23:13

Madeleine but both are lovely

ratussbaguss · 17/08/2022 23:12

Madeleine

Matilda is very common now

sageandbasil · 17/08/2022 21:50

Matilda all day long

IStandWithMaya · 17/08/2022 21:50

Love the name Madeleine

But she will be called Maddy/Mad/Mads at school whether you like it or not.

Newuser82 · 17/08/2022 21:48

Matilda. I really don't like Madeline.

Angelmonkey · 17/08/2022 21:46

Madeleine- I have one and we’ve never met another little girl with the same name, I know of at least 4 Matilda’s under 8

OctopusDisco · 17/08/2022 21:36

Madeline

Matilda is really overused. Although over the peak I think.

Yes there's McCann connotations but that's passing as time goes on. I think it is a beautiful name and deserves a come back.
