Baby boy name opinions

We have recently found out we are having a boy and have struggled with boy names!

We already have a boy called Oakley

Our top 3 at the minute are ...
Harlan
Rohan (pronounced the irish way, roh-an)
Harlow

I'm not as keen on Harlow as I worry it's a little toooooo feminine but my OH really likes it.

As you can tell we tend to go for unisex names! I like names that aren't too common but also aren't completely weird! (Oakley wasn't as popular as it is now when we named our first 🙄!) Also like names that I can shorten when we're at home (Harley/Harls, Ro)

Thank you!

I only like Rohan from your list. Other suggestions:

Hadley
Lennon
Camden
Cameron

Why is Roh-an the Irish way?
I don't think the name is popular in Ireland is it?

I do like it best of the three but would have said Ro-han if I had to guess.

You can't call a baby Aslan!

Why not?! I love it and I believe it is a reasonably common name in some countries like Turkey.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/08/2022 21:56

Rohan

Hard no to the other two

frenchie4002 · 22/08/2022 21:22

ElizaSkye · 22/08/2022 20:51

Ah just seen you have Oakley, maybe too similar with the endings

ElizaSkye · 22/08/2022 20:51

I would suggest Hartley? It fits with the vibe but is actually an old English name with a nice meaning

DuchessOfSausage · 22/08/2022 19:56

Harlow is twinned with Stavanger, which is a nicer than Harlow

PeekAtYou · 22/08/2022 19:38

Definitely not Harlow. It is not a great place to share a name with.

I like Rohan but it could get mixed up with similar names like Roman, Rowan. I prefer it to Harlan.

Hector is really cute and is in the film Hunt for the Wilderpeople which is one of the best ever films.
Oakley and Hector sound great.

RioDJ · 17/08/2022 11:40

Dexter
Fraser
Harrison
Zachary

drinkallthecoffee · 17/08/2022 11:35

If you like Harlan and he likes Harlow why not just go with Harley?

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 11:33

You can't call a baby Aslan!

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 11:32

Stripeydragon · 17/08/2022 11:30

Oakley and Rohan are both 'outdoor' brands.

They are! Baby No 3 could be Rab or Arc'teryx

Stripeydragon · 17/08/2022 11:30

Oakley and Rohan are both 'outdoor' brands.

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2022 10:38

Another one:Cormac
Ansel, as well

Love the name Aslan, suggested above

Penguinsaregreat · 17/08/2022 10:38

Harlan is my favourite.

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2022 10:37

Sorry… I put Aidan twice.

Hobbesmanc · 17/08/2022 10:36

Harlan Coben- hugely successful thriller writer whose books have been made into several movies and TV dramas. So it has some provenance. Better than Harley/Harvey which are a bit overdone

Harlow- hmmm I see Harlot but that's probs my mind lol

Roman and Ronan are great. I also like Arkan and Aslan - although I appreciate it's also a lions name. I've a Rogan in the family which we love but he does get the Rogan Josh comment a lot

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2022 10:36

I like Rohan the best.

Suggestions:
Kellan
Blake
Aidan
Wyatt
Sage
Kingsley
Silas
Everett
Evan
Aidan

Harlow is either a not particularly nice town in Essex or a girls first name, I’m assuming from Jean Harlow.

Harlan, I think of the author Harlan Coben which isn’t a bad association. I quite like it.

Rohan is great but more popular and it blends with similar names like Rowan or Roman, depends whether or not that bothers you!

KirstenBlest · 17/08/2022 10:23

Just because you haven't heard of Harlow doesn't mean others won't. Quite a few well-known people like Rupert Grint are from there. It's just off the M11 motorway between London and Stansted Airport. There's Harlow Carr in Yorkshire, which is much nicer etc.

Purplemoon19 · 17/08/2022 10:00

Definitely Rohan of the three. Harlow is a girls name to me. I haven’t come across Harlan before, it’s okay.

tinykirst · 17/08/2022 09:55

I've never been to Harlow but from researching I've seen it's not a great place! But I don't think that's much of an issue for us as we live so far away from the place no one nearby would have heard of it! I've certainly never heard of it before. Plus I come from a skanky town that's becoming more of a popular name now and doesn't seem to bother anyone 😂

I love Fletcher but I'm a Mcfly fan so that's automatically a no go 🙄😂

Harlan is my favourite out of the list but OH's least favourite ...

Thankfully baby isn't due until January so we've got plenty of time to decide
