Needing a baby girl name

Je333ie · 16/08/2022 19:31

Currently pregnant and really struggling to find a baby girls name we both like. Totally settled on our boys name but can't finalise a girls so I've came here for some help. Currently on our girls list is

. Penelope
. Saffie ( hubby's fave)
. Nell
. Sadie
. Indigo

Hubby likes less traditional names and more unusual or nn vibes. I'm veering more towards traditional and thinking more Penelope with nn Nell or just a stand alone Nell. The thing that is putting me off going with Penelope is the nn penny which ( no offence to anyone) but I really dislike. Please give me your opinions on fave name out of these?

Meandfour · 31/03/2023 20:25

This is an old thread guys I think she's prob decided

Justinripley · 29/03/2023 04:58

Penelope - I don't understand the popularity of this and think hard avoid if you don't want Penny
. Saffie - could you have Safia and this for short?
. Nell - love. Ages very well too
. Sadie - love! I think very underused too
. Indigo - no. A bit too Bedales.

I still love Saffron - Saffy. I see above Sapphire is an option.
I also like Ellinor, Helena, Helen, Ellen - Nell names
Sadie - not as much as Sally.
Indigo is nice enough if it matches a lot of other parameters

Sapphire Helen
Sally Florence
Saffron Ellinor
Ellen Sapphire
Ellinor Phoebe

Nell is traditionally short for Elinor/Eleanor/Helen/Helena and I like all of those better than Penelope TBH. Penelope is OK I suppose, but you might not avoid Penny.

Saffie - lovely as short for Saffron, Saffira (unsure of correct spelling) or maybe Sapphire.

Sadie is great, quirky in a good way.

Indigo is quirky in a bad way, unattractive and Indie is worse.

IMO.

fairycupcakes · 29/03/2023 00:02

Sadie is such a great name as is Saffie but I’d go Saffron or Sapphire and have it as a nn.

I wouldn’t go for Penelope if you’re not keen on Penny just as it’s likely to be used by peers.

Not keen on Indigo but India/Indie is lovely

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/03/2023 21:55

love Penelope- nn her Nell from outset and introduce her that way if you don’t want her to be Penny.

also like Sadie.

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/03/2023 19:47

Penelope (Nell) or Sadie

FayCarew · 28/03/2023 19:36

Penelope - not if you don't like Penny, unless you go by Nell as a day-to-day name
Saffie - looks like Staffie, but ok if short for Saffron
Nell - nice
Sadie - ok
Indigo - not ok

LibbyL92 · 28/03/2023 19:18

I love Sadie!

other Suggestions

Theordora (Tedi for short)
Vivienne (vivi)
love those two names and hope to use them one day!

user1492757084 · 22/08/2022 19:36

Safron - Saffie - is delightful
Ellen, Ellinor, Elena - Nell - my second fave.

Penelope is not good if you don't like Penny.
Do you like:
Calliope
Hermione

DaisyP24 · 21/08/2022 09:34

Penelope nn Nell

ButterRose · 18/08/2022 05:23

Out if your list I like Nell and Sadie

Out of all those I like Nell

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/08/2022 23:01

Love Penelope piper and sadie

Beautifulsunflowers · 16/08/2022 22:46

It’s very hard to get a nn to stick because others may use different nn’s - you may call a Penelope Nell but she may get called Penny by her peers.

I actually like Saffie and Sadie from your list.

other Suggestions
Caroline nn Callie
Beatrice nn Bea or Trixie
Annabell nn Belle of Anna
Isabel nn Belle or Izzy
Katherine nn Kate or Katie
Octavia nn Tavi
Victoria nn Vicki or Tori
Harriet nn Hattie or Hari
Felicity nn Lici
or
Faye
Anna
Anya
Tessa
Cora
Beth

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/08/2022 22:33

I can’t stand Penny either but Penelope nn Nell is nice

I’d probably go for Sarah nn Sadie - it traditionally was a nn for Sarah and I prefer it as that

or -

Nancy (As a nn for Anna or stand alone)
Katharine nn Kate or Kit
Caitlin nn Cait
Liv
Marina nn Marnie
Vivienne nn Vivi
Jean
Zoe
Tessa (can be a nn for Teresa or Esther)
Frances nn Frankie
Jocelyn nn Joss
Elizabeth nn Buffy or Betsy
Lois
Dorothea nn Dorey or Dorrie
Cassia nn Cassie
Caroline nn Callie

I can’t hear Saffie without hearing darling, but anyway I think that really is a nn and needs to be Saffron or Safina or.. Sapphire I
guess

watermelonlipbalm · 16/08/2022 22:22

I think Saffie is very cute!

My personal favourite girl names are :
Honey
Misty
Blossom
Bonnie
Holly

JellyDeels · 16/08/2022 22:13

I don't mind Penelope but Nell is awful.

Indigo is a bit too "out there" for me.

Sadie is OK.

But Saffie, I absolutely LOVE that name.

weegiemum · 16/08/2022 21:42

I like Nell. My Auntie Nell is Helen (think that's quite common in Scotland).

Riverlee · 16/08/2022 21:25

Penelope and Sadie are my favourites.

Saffron, nn Saffie?

Suggestions
Clementine, nn Clemmie
Tilly
Sylvia
Scarlett
Jasmine

Purpleavocado · 16/08/2022 21:17

Helena could shorten to Nell

Hobbesmanc · 16/08/2022 21:13

Nell is gorgeous. Traditionally from Helen or Eleanor. Both great names. Although I like the spelling Elinor.

What about Norah

Rosiethecat15 · 16/08/2022 20:43

I love Penelope with nn Nell.
Also really like Sadie, or even Zadie.
