What is everyone's thoughts on the name Coral?? Is it too soon for a come back, too old fashioned? Or does it fit in with the other nature themed names like Willow, Skye etc?

I wouldn't see it as an old lady name - the only Coral I know is in her twenties. I've met a Coralie too which is very pretty. I think Coral fits in with the current nature names really well and it's feminine without being frilly.

FayCarew · 19/08/2022 12:08

Bookmakers. Not quite as bad as Bill Hill.

TempsPerdu · 19/08/2022 11:29

I quite like it. Agree that it’s never been common enough to be dated as a ‘granny name’ - I’ve never come across a Coral, and it’s certainly not a stereotypical older person’s name.

Nice link to nature, and fits with both that trend and other currently popular choices like Cora.

I like it. I don't think it's ever been popular enough to sound dated.

FlamingoDust · 17/08/2022 21:46

I love it!

mathanxiety · 17/08/2022 21:45

Its a little too close to oral imo.

Maybe use it as a middle name.

I don't think it was ever a popular name, so the idea of a comeback isn't really relevant.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/08/2022 21:40

It's a pretty name. I need to think of what coral is made from. I'd be sorely tempted to ask her to put a fiver each way on for me though. Sorry OP. I knew a woman called Mrs Hill, and she called her son William. I think I managed an "oh how lovely" with a smile.rather than a giggle.

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/08/2022 21:32

I think it fits with the Laurels and theCoras. Although I have to say I do prefer Laurel andCora

milkysmum · 17/08/2022 21:14

I actually really like it. We have a Coral in our office, she's mid 30's. I don't know any other Corals.

LilacSloth · 17/08/2022 20:58

It's a lovely name.

carefullycourageous · 17/08/2022 19:13

*no

carefullycourageous · 17/08/2022 19:13

I think it is a nice name - I can see not reason not to pick it if it has special meaning for you.

StarlessSea123 · 17/08/2022 19:11

I like it, for me it has nature associations. I don’t know any older people with the name but know a young child called Coral. I think it’s pretty and would age well with the child.

awwbiscuits · 17/08/2022 18:39

I had a coral in my year at school and I'm early thirties. I like it. The only thing that puts me off is the way it sounds like Rick in the walking dead saying 'Carl' !

Penguinsaregreat · 17/08/2022 18:37

I think it’s nice. I don’t see it as old fashioned at all. I’d use it op especially as it’s your grandmother’s name.

magdamaple · 17/08/2022 18:36

I love it!
Was on my list, the betting shop put me off.

I think it's a beautiful name though.

MissyB1 · 17/08/2022 15:56

I like it, Dh has a colleague called Coral, she’s an amazing Doctor and single parent, a very inspiring person.

loosebutton · 17/08/2022 15:53

Beautiful

housemaus · 17/08/2022 11:46

I love it - don't think it's dated, but not overused either.

ButterRose · 17/08/2022 11:43

Thanks for the feed back everyone 😊 it's my grandmother's name and since we have always been close I've always sort of liked it but was unsure of how others would see the name my mum and sister think it's an old lady name but it seems it's neither here nor there for most people so I might use it yet...at the very least it'll stay on the list

Was is it ever that popular in the past? I don't know any older ladies named Cora. I've only met one Coral who is in her 20s. I've also met a Coralie.
I don't think it's dated.

Titsflyingsouth · 16/08/2022 07:16

The only one I ever met would be about 30 now.

Not keen tbh. It doesn't sound granny chic to me it just sounds dowdy.

pilates · 16/08/2022 06:55

I dislike it, sounds frumpy to me

Pinkywoo · 16/08/2022 06:35

I like it, and I also know a Coraline.

PotatoFamily · 16/08/2022 06:34

I had it on the shortlist for my DD and she’s now 19
