Samzzz · 15/08/2022 11:15

We are due our second baby around Christmas and are keeping the gender a surprise. We have already chosen a boy name but struggling to decide for a girl.
We already have a little boy called Ezra.

Our top 4 girl names:
-Winter
-Soleil or Soleila
-Zira (not sure if too similar to Ezra)
-Sarai

Respectful opinions would be appreciated and any other suggestions welcome. Thank you :)

Not a fan of any of them, sorry.

What about Zalie?

Louise0701 · 15/08/2022 17:52

None.

Nola?
Nala?

frenchie4002 · 15/08/2022 17:50

Another vote for Winter

Thruandthru · 15/08/2022 17:49

Winter is nice and the best one.

The others are quite tricky to pronounce imo

Hadtocomment · 15/08/2022 17:41

Soleila is quite hard to say for me. Is the second l pronounced? Is it pronounced Sol-layla or Sol-lyla? I prefer Solaya (no second l). As others have said Soraya is a very beautiful name.

On names beginning with Sol, I also like the name Soledad which is Spanish but quite unusual in English. But it's quite different in sound and meaning.

Not sure about Winter - seems very different to Soleil in sound and meaning.Other suggestions: Keziah?

Sarai is the kind of name that sounds absolutely beautiful with the emphasis in the right place, but English so often makes beautiful names not sound so lovely by emphasising the first syllable too much. I think that's why I'm also unsure about Soleil, which sounds really lovely in French but sort of needs a lingering emphasis on the second syllable a bit to sound so lovely. As opposed to the first syllable being pushed more like in English and becoming closer to Solly.

I don't know if any of those thoughts helpful OP! Excuse me if I'm being ignorant.

RooniIWazlib · 15/08/2022 15:28

I really don't like any of those names. Winter is probably the best though.

What about Noelle?

TheVanguardSix · 15/08/2022 15:24

Admittedly, I'm not mad keen on your list. Sorry, OP. 😥Not to be a jerk...

But I do like Ezra and Zelda (Zizi) together.

It's a bit 'samey' but Ezra and Erin are also nice together.

Ezra and Soraiya

Ezra and Salma

Ezra and Naomi

Ezra and Sidonie

Ezra and Keziah

Ezra and Delilah

IggyAce · 15/08/2022 15:20

From your list Winter, not really a fan of the others. A couple of suggestions
Soraya, Aspen, Celeste, Suri.

ZitarsLove · 15/08/2022 15:15

Also really like Lucy

How about Lucia?

User354354 · 15/08/2022 14:35

Out of your list I like winter the best.

I know 2, both spelt Wynter.

Wouldn't Recc playing around with the spelling.

Out of interest. How do you pronounce Sarai?

Firefly83 · 15/08/2022 12:40

Love Seren

octoberfarm · 15/08/2022 12:34

Really like Winter. Have you considered Seren?

Firefly83 · 15/08/2022 12:30

It was merely a suggestion. @Homewardbound2022 what are your suggestions then🤔

Firefly83 · 15/08/2022 12:28

@Homewardbound2022 so your point is?

capedavenger · 15/08/2022 12:13

-Winter: I love this one for a Christmas baby.
-Soleil or Soleila: no sorry I hate it.
-Zira: yes too similar to Ezra and would be mistaken for Zara all the time.
-Sarai: I like this one, a slight twist on Sarah it's pretty but unusual.

Soproudoflionesses · 15/08/2022 12:11

Hate them all.

Ezra has been my favourite name for years!

Not a fan of any of the girls names though if I'm honest - don't think they're in the same league as Ezra!

I really struggle with girls names 😩 but I'm sure you'll find the perfect one! X

PraiseBee · 15/08/2022 12:06

What about Aurora (means dawn), Seren (means star), Eira (means snow), Natasha (born on Christmas Day),

Outlyingtrout · 15/08/2022 12:05

I like Winter. It doesn't make me think 'dark and gloomy'. I like that time of year.

Zira sounds like an antibacterial spray (sorry!) but I think I could pronounce it correctly. I'm not quite sure how to say Soleil (Soh-lay? Soh-layl?) or Soleila (Suh-Layla?) and they sound a bit clumsy when I try. Same with Sarai (Sah-rye? Sah-ray?). I think you'd be condemning the child to a lifetime of telling everyone how to pronounce and spell their name which gets EXTREMELY boring and frustrating.

loubieloo4 · 15/08/2022 12:03

Willow

Twizbe · 15/08/2022 12:02

I'd pick Winter from those. I think anything meaning sun feels odd for a winter baby.

That said I'm not keen on any of those name really.

I like Holly for a Christmas baby.

SycamoreTall · 15/08/2022 11:59

I like Winter best of those. I would also include a non Christmas themed, perhaps more traditional middle name. Partly because Winter is quite unisex, so it's helpful to be "Winter Annabel" or whatever on forms.
