Jaze or Jayze

To be pronounced to rhyme with maze?

I prefer Jaze as it's simpler but my DP thinks Jayze looks more solid as a name. We don't like traditional names so James is off the menu. We liked Jay but it's a bit overdone and more boring.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Maxim is a very good name.

It's a character in ' Rebecca' and when everyone calls him Max, you can have the childish pleasure of correcting them and saying: "No! It's Maxim! " as in the Daphne du Maurier novel" , or "No! Think 'Last night I went to Manderley!'.

What is a name but a collection of sounds and associations, but it's a good idea to canvas views, as you have done.

I can imagine using Jace as a shortened form of Jason, but I still thing go for one which can be formal or short and cool. My name has never been popular, but I'm glad I now have a name which can be formal and longer and then a short informal one. I really like those options, and I think even some pop star's kids have changed very unusual-sounding names, so maybe something which has options to personalise.

FFS Blaze is a euphemism for smoking weed. That really will cement the idea that his parents are nobbers.

Zade is an actual name. It's Arabic and not unique. But is nice.

Blaise is a French saint. It’s used a fair bit in France and by Catholic families generally. I know an Irish Blaise.

It’s a nice name. But not spelt Blaze I agree.

You could also spell Jay as Jai.
But please don’t.

What's wrong with Jai?

Don't be daft

IggyAce · 14/08/2022 21:23

Jace is better,
Zade not a fan how about Zane or Zeke.

Lovelycheesegromit · 14/08/2022 21:21

This is obviously a joke

Yogagrandmum · 14/08/2022 21:18

Horrid

Diverseopinions · 14/08/2022 21:17

Amazon.

Is unusual, but very current in feel, with the rain forest.

Nile ( after the river and source of life)

whentheraincame · 14/08/2022 21:17

He would get called Jay-Z. At least by me, if I met him.

Diverseopinions · 14/08/2022 21:15

I think it's good to go for a name with some other meaning, as well as the nice sound. A cool and unusual name would by River.
I know it's an outdated concept, but I think the 'ay' sound has been used a lot on girly names: Fay, May, Jade, Freya, Lorraine.

Without a hard consonant, can it sound a bit forgettable: Dale, Dane, Wayne?

Dirk, as in Dirk Bogarte is an unusual and short name.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 14/08/2022 21:10

I would try and come up with a sensible name suitable for an intelligent, responsible adult, rather than a footballer or X factor contestant.

He's hardly going to be Lord Chief Justice with a name like Zade!

slowquickstep · 14/08/2022 21:08

Please don't saddle your child with such a name, they will never ever be taken seriously.

sanityisamyth · 14/08/2022 21:06

Are you sure you want a child? S/he is going to get mercilessly bullied. How about a dog instead?!

Lulu1919 · 14/08/2022 21:06

Made me think of Jeys cleaning fluid...sorry !

Don't go for Jace either. Some lower-than-lowlife from "Teen Mom 2" has a son called that. She's not the kind of person you want to have the same taste as.

Lemonblossom · 14/08/2022 20:58

Horrendous. As are your other options. OP I think your pregnancy hormones are doing you a disservice.

RooniIWazlib · 14/08/2022 20:56

I prefer Jaze as it's simpler

Do you, aye?

Diverseopinions · 14/08/2022 20:55

Kade or Kayde are short, and have a nice cadence ( 'scuse the pun) and the hard consonants counter the soft vowel.

Also, if they set up their own fashion merchandising company, later in life, they could call it ' Mayde by Kayde' or 'Made by Kade'.

toomuchlaundry · 14/08/2022 20:53

Your child won’t thank you and will probably be changing it as soon as possible. If you like names like that change your own

saywhatwhatnow · 14/08/2022 20:50

I quite like Jace. Secret teen mom fan though Blush

Diverseopinions · 14/08/2022 20:49

Heath is quite a nice one syllable name, with nature-inspired associations.

There is Ace, from the list of one-syllable names, but sounds a bit short and simple. Heath is better.

Montgomerymmoose · 14/08/2022 20:48
