Jaze or Jayze

To be pronounced to rhyme with maze?

I prefer Jaze as it's simpler but my DP thinks Jayze looks more solid as a name. We don't like traditional names so James is off the menu. We liked Jay but it's a bit overdone and more boring.

I know a 17 yr old called Jay. His mum wanted him to be called Jayden. It was too progressive for us boring types back then. Now it's everywhere.

I like Blaze. Not Kade. Jaze etc is terrible. Asa?

Or maybe just call him Gary.

I can't speak for other posters but my kids go to a school where only 10% of pupils have 'English' names. I've still never come across a Jayze or Jaze (but lots of Zaids). In any case, Jayze/Jaze would be an English or American name.

That doesn't change my view that you're saddling your child with an unattractive name and one that people will pre-judge him on, rightly or wrongly.

I think it's worth googling 'classic short boys' names' for ideas.

The truth is that it is all to do with usage. A couple of years ago, you'd never have had Agatha or Ada, but both are popular now.

It's amazing that River and Winter have become accepted boys names....but not Snow or Sleet or Spring. However, that is how it goes and I guess it is the sounds. I guess, a true way to sum it up, is that names ought to have an element of seriousness - gravitas, as well as a pleasing sound, just in case the youngster who is wearing the name wants to do a serious job. And also, names which trip off the tongue can get to sound boring, so a harder consonant, an added meaning, in there, or just a less usual version, gives the name a bit of uniqueness.

Probably 'Jake' isn't as usual, these days, so might be a nice choice.

Jaze is awful. My cousin named her son Jace and the reaction from the rest of the family was raised eyebrows and ‘what a silly name’! Behind her back obviously, but poor child. What about Xavier?

I think ‘becoming naughty’ or being poorly disciplined and then displaying poor behaviour can often happen to children born to parents who pick shit names. Picking a ridiculous name can sometimes just be the start of a string of poor parenting choices. It’s not due to the name itself.

I know a few Zade's spelt Zaid. Both dads are Muslim and mums English. I'm not sure the origins of the name.
