Callie??

So I just came across the name Callie - I don't think I've ever heard it before but really like it.

Does it sound completely made up? Or is it a proper name?

Could Callie be short for anything?

Thoughts?

I don't think you would get Caz from Callie,
Caz, Baz, Daz etc seem like a very 80s/90s thing to do to a name.

Maybe Cal but Callie is short enough

alotoftutus · 12/08/2022 18:56

Thanks all - didn't think it would get such a positive response.

I don't know why I've not heard of it before but I think it's pretty. Glad it's not just a made up name as I'm not really into those.

Wonder if people would shorten it to Caz? I Don't like Caz, also totally see what you mean about a possible dogs name 😆

Sheriff Callie's Wild West is what comes to mind, and the annoying theme tune.

Also wasnt Callie a grey's anatomy character? Might be making that one up.
Overall, no negative connotations or links come to mind. I like how it sounds.

Callies Ive know have Carolines or Calistas.

liveforsummer · 12/08/2022 18:43

It was my second choice name with both dc. There are lots of variations. I would have used Callista but also considered Kalia/Kali . It's Greek and means 'beautiful one'

MissMaple82 · 12/08/2022 18:40

Hmm it's a good dog name, like Charlie.

SammySueTwo · 12/08/2022 18:39

Short for Calpurnia?

Dreikanter · 12/08/2022 18:34

There was a Callie in the early 70s TV show Follyfoot - I think it was short for Cathleen?

Pebblebeach15 · 12/08/2022 18:34

Love it 😍

dalisdrippingclock · 12/08/2022 18:32

I like it as a nn for Calliope

OnlyaMummy · 12/08/2022 18:26

My daughters name is Callie. I still adore the name and I'm glad we decided that was the winner.

AceSpades54321 · 12/08/2022 18:24

Tbh it does make me think of Grange Hill (I'm very old) but I still like it so 👍👍

That's where I know it from! 😂

RooniIWazlib · 12/08/2022 18:14

Just reminds me of Calais which isn't a pleasant place to be reminded of.

Stressybetty · 12/08/2022 18:13

Calista's that American actress going out with Harrison Ford? Not keen on it, sounds a bit like a model of car. Prefer Callie or Carrie

MassiveSalad22 · 12/08/2022 18:09

Love it and we considered Calliope and Calista 😍

KylieCharlene · 12/08/2022 18:08

I like it. I think I'd use it an everyday name but put Calista on the b.c.
I also like the similar sounding Carrie.
