Callie??

So I just came across the name Callie - I don't think I've ever heard it before but really like it.

Does it sound completely made up? Or is it a proper name?

Could Callie be short for anything?

Thoughts?

Grange Hill springs to mind. My daughter had a friend called Callie-may I think is nice and also like Carrie

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/08/2022 10:29

I like it short for Caroline, or Calliope or Calista if you want something more unusual

Calista's that American actress going out with Harrison Ford? Not keen on it, sounds a bit like a model of car. Prefer Callie or Carrie

They’ve been married for years.

There was a Callie / Calliope in Greys Anatomy.

I know of a Kally. Beautiful name in both the K and C forms.

DramaAlpaca · 12/08/2022 22:20

My friend has one. She's just Callie, not short for anything. I like it.

KTyoupigeon · 12/08/2022 22:09

My DD who is in her 20’s is called Cally - we saw it first as a shortened version of Calandra - which we didn’t like so we just chose Cally as her birth name. She loves her name and all through education even Uni she was the only one registered with that name. Think it’s more popular now though

J3110 · 12/08/2022 22:07

My baby is 12 days old and we loved Hallie for a name but partners nice has a callie so we can't use it. Love both names! My niece was supposed to be a Callie too but ended up coming out a suprise boy 🤣

Electricfireplace · 12/08/2022 21:33

Actually I have had two Callie's in my class this year, one was short for Caledonia, and I teach in Scotland... It's definitely a popular (but not over-so) here, and Caledonia is the old Roman name for Scotland.

I like it btw, nice name, easy to spell.

Cousins kid is. Calico

I had a Calico cat called Cally.

If I’d had a daughter then I’d have happily called her Cally / Callie.

ProperVexed · 12/08/2022 21:22

Love it....but only if it is short for Calliope ( a name of divine joy!)

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 12/08/2022 21:19

Short for Callista, which I also love?

My aunt is Cally short for Caroline.

TeddyTonks · 12/08/2022 21:06

I knew a Callinda who sent by Callie. Lovely lady and lovely name.

SalviaOfficinalis · 12/08/2022 21:00

I really like Callie. I also like Cassie and Hallie which are similar.

Eixample · 12/08/2022 21:00

I know a Calliope and a Callia (and a Cassia).

PrimroseWharf · 12/08/2022 20:58

I know a Callie who is Caroline. Pretty name. I like PP suggestion of Calla too which would avoid the Kelly mix up,

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 12/08/2022 20:57

I used to know a Cally. She was lovely.

But she did have people absolutely adamant that she couldn't possibly be called Cally, it must be short for something. One batshit woman was convinced she must really be called Calendar, of all things.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/08/2022 20:54

The Callie I know is Callista

Justgivemesomepeace · 12/08/2022 20:53

The Callie I know is a Caroline.

alotoftutus · 12/08/2022 20:49

@ThickLizzy yes that's a good point. Wouldn't want a Callie / Kelly mix up

Callie in Grey’s Anatomy is Calliope.

ThickLizzy · 12/08/2022 19:52

I love it. Could be short for Calliope. But the reason I didn’t use it is because of potential mishearing as Kelly.

bombombo · 12/08/2022 19:25

Lovely name! Love Calista and Calliope too.

IggyAce · 12/08/2022 19:03

A work class colleague has just called her dd Callie.
