I actually prefer Annelie to Amelie. an underrated name!

Annelie Grace! Beautiful

I don't mind Nellie with your surname, but only as a nickname- give her the option of Annelie/Annie/anything she likes as she gets older

Thank you. I have never heard of Annelie before very recently. Partner thought I was saying Amelie wrong 😂

As one of three girls I have a soft spot for a sister of trios<3

They are all lovely, with my favorite is Harper Wren :)

Can we know which one you ended up choosing?

Thank you..

Harper Wren was partners choice. I was unsure on Wren as that was my nickname growing up and certain family still call me that now. Its a name which my great nan started when I was a tiny baby. He liked Harper or Remi but I think Remi is possibly used more for a boy. If I had a boy I would probably defo use that. I will keep you posted, still have 2 weeks until we register her luckily x

OP, I think you need to just say "Here is baby Nellie" and introduce her to people. It comes across like she is already Nellie in your head and you are letting strangers' opinions get to you. Which is understandable, 11 days ago you gave birth, you're sleep-deprived, hormones are doing the whacky on you... Don't stress about this, focus on your beautiful healthy daughter. Congratulations Flowers welcome to the world, Nellie Star

Thank you so much. The thought of people telling me I'm setting her up for bullying is what's put me off but maybe if I find a middle name that she could use if she does grow up to dislike her name then I would feel better.. Grace is after partners family member but we also have the options of Ivy, Donna Emilia, Reign, Jade to honour our family as my others girls middle names are all after family members x

OP, they aren't the type of names I like but if you like the sound of Nellie Grace Nevitt then go for it!
There is nothing inherently wrong or awful with the name and you will just regret it if you don't.

Opinions?

Harper reminds me too much of Harpie.

anything with Grace makes me feel a bit sick, as it's sickly.

Lylah same thing.

Nellie I find original, I like that, abut prefer Nelle and also like Noelle and Noah for a girl.

Oncemoreforluck · 12/08/2022 17:46

I know a Penelope who’s nickname was Nellie as a toddler, then became Nell. She now mostly uses her full name.

Glitterbiscuits · 12/08/2022 17:40

OP ask Mumsnet HQ to remove your other thread with your surname on. I'm sure they will understand why.

The NN name is too much.
Lyla is lovely as is Grace.

I'd avoid Harper ( Harpic) they would meet someone who can say H.
One little Harper at our school is often called Arps.

Nellie/Nel is lovely, please use it if it’s your favourite. People can come up with silly rhymes or associations for everything if they try! The alliteration is fine too.

Just do Grace as a middle name though, not a hyphen, it’s just nicer!

Thank you so much x

I would try hard to find a name where you can use Nellie as a nickname as I really agree with @Luredbyapomegranate that it isn't fair to call a child Nellie Nevitt. Some names are striking when paired together but this is a clumsy, comedic and awkward name.

I don't think it matters whether other people like or don't like a name but saddling a person with a daft name is not reasonable.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 12/08/2022 17:29

My DD has an alliterative sounding name. It’s never been an issue.

If you like Nellie, go for it. I would maybe choose Nell though instead.

greatblueheron · 12/08/2022 17:25

I know several Annelieses / Annalises ... none of them have had their names shortened.

Penelope?

And nickname her Nellie?

You'll never please everyone! DD2 is Grace and I've had lots of comments from 'boring' to 'unusual'

If you love it then just go for it, life's too short.

Coffeepls · 12/08/2022 17:12

Nellie is beautiful. I know a little Nellie and never thought anything other than how lovely her name is! Stick with your gut! You could
go with Nell or Penelope or Eleanor but just always use Nellie.

Pemba · 12/08/2022 16:52

Your other suggestions of Anneleise or Anneli (unsure of spellings) are really pretty imo. You can get in there first with your chosen nickname of Nellie, and then, does it matter if later on people at school call her Anna or Annie. Besides, it would be nice for her to have options.

Or you could just name her Nell, like a pp suggested, or Nella.

AWobABobBob · 12/08/2022 16:37

Hate hate hate Grace, Rose and May as middle names as they have been done to death. But out of your list Harper Wren is the best. Instead of Nellie what about Nell?

midgetastic · 12/08/2022 16:28

Harper wren is a bit tongue twister for me

Purpleavocado · 12/08/2022 16:25

I love Harper Wren and Lyla Grace.
If Nellie is a friend or family name, then go ahead and use it if it has meaning for you. It's not any of our choices. She can always choose to be called Nell as she gets older if she prefers. Don't stress about what others like, we are just people on the internet!

Whataretheodds · 12/08/2022 16:23

Thinking of a formal name which can be shortened to Nellie, do you like Jonelle, or Janelle?

J3110 · 12/08/2022 16:20

mondler · 12/08/2022 16:18

I think they are all lovely op. It's your baby so as long as you love it that's all that matters as you'll never get a name everyone likes.

I had to rule out loads of names because of my surname too so I understand it sucks! Nellie would be a lovely middle name if you don't like any of the longer versions. My son has a middle name which means a lot to me and I love knowing it's part of his full name even if not used often.

Pick a first name you love as you'll use it all the time. Harper and Grace are beautiful and will flow with Nellie in the middle IMO.

Good luck x

Thank you so much hun x
