We’ve looked at loads of sites for a boy’s name (don’t know what we are having yet!) and can’t seem to agree on any.
I thought of Reuben, thoughts please?
Thanks

I am sorry but when I hear of the name I think a sandwich. It was on the menu in every deli I have been in the East Coast USA and in the last couple of years it is becoming more common in small sandwich shops in rural Ireland.

Mentioned Reuben as a possibility to my MIL and she kept saying Ray Ban. She’s completely put me off it now!

I love those Old Testament Jewish names although some like Noah and Jonah have been overused. Seth, Jesse, Caleb and Elijah all sound strong

pinklavenders · 13/08/2022 13:49

Rueben is the German word for Turnips!

I have one, amazing strong but gentle biblical name.

The correct spelling is Reuben, Ruben a spanish spelling, Rueben a misspelling.

Rueben does seem to be the most common misspelling.

Isn't it Reuben?

So far DS has had Rueban, Reuben, Rueben and Rubin.... just be prepared for it!

The biblical meaning of rueben is 'behold, a son' which i think is lovely

vdbfamily · 12/08/2022 23:53

my all time favourite name. never got to use it as had one boy whose name had to follow a family tradition

december2020 · 12/08/2022 23:52

Super popular
I'm uncultured and it reminds me of the sandwich

Anystarinthesky · 12/08/2022 23:50

I like it! Great name.

Fab name! I have one, he’s 8. I know about 875377 small children and have only come across one other and he’s a Rubin whereas mine is Reuben. My Reuben is amazing and definitely a VERY strong personality!

Yes same here very strong personality 😂

The sandwich is named after a Reuben though. I mean the actual word Sandwich is named after Lord Sandwich and doesn't sound silly.

Slightly biased as I have a Reuben - not so popular down here (SE/Central) I really struggled with boys names and a friend suggested it and I loved it immediately. No others in his school or our social circle.
We do have the odd family member who mis-spells (Rueben) but generally no issues.
Roobs and RoobyDoo are the 2 nicknames family call him but to everyone else he's Reuben 😊

We call my rueben, Roo, Roobiedoobie, roobs, roobarb

@pixiebex86 it's a type of sandwich in the US. Some sort of rye and pastrami type thing I think

Oohh really. I'm in the UK, not something we have here

Know lots with variations of Ruben, Rueben and Reuben so that can be a bit confusing. That’s the only issue for me though!

I love it my friend has a adult son called Reuben and I always knew how to spell it and the most common in the UK is "Reuben" so I didn't see this coming so I second what this poster says as I have a Reuben and it gets spelt Rueben or Ruebeun alot most often by family members to which is very annoying especially on social media where everyone sees and I can discreetly correct them (ie "yes thank you Reuben loves it") he is 7 and it's never worked so far they do it all the time tbh

MissMaple82 · 12/08/2022 23:30

Love it

There are 2 ways to spell it

LakeIsle48 · 12/08/2022 23:00

My son is called Owen and it suits him so much. He is devilishly handsome, even though I say it myself 😊

LakeIsle48 · 12/08/2022 22:56

Stunning name, I adore it!!
