Love this nickname for a little girl, but we like nickname sounding names to have a more official sounding actual name for the birth certificate. I've thought of Evelyn but not overly keen on it. Ideas?

Sorry but it just makes me think you've named your child after a pelvic floor trainer or breast pump

caringcarer · 07/08/2022 10:15

Elvera

Ah yes, bit of googling shows, there's an old English name Elvina as well as the Irish name Ailbhe which Elvie sounds like (not exactly though).

xJoyfulCalmWisdomx · 07/08/2022 10:12

Elvira or Elva

I think Elvie is a name though. It may be an anglicisation of a celtic name. I know an Elva and an Elvie in Ireland.

DD1 has a friend called Elvie. She’s French. I hadn’t heard of either the breast pump or the pelvic floor thing!

Leafy3 · 07/08/2022 09:28

Elva, one of my favourite names and so underused

20viona · 07/08/2022 09:27

All I think of is the breast pump.

Letshoptoit · 07/08/2022 09:26

Elvira would be the obvious one to me.
My first thought was also the breast pump but presumably this wouldn’t be the case for a primary school class!

MumofSpud · 07/08/2022 09:25

Evangeline?

Use the name if that's what you want to call your child. Whatever you call them there's a good chance people will create their own nicknames - you might not get to dictate that.

OnaBegonia · 07/08/2022 09:19

Why does it need to a nickname? Just use that as the name.

TitilatedOcelot · 07/08/2022 09:17

Or for a proper name with a similar sound, Sylvie?

Hugasauras · 07/08/2022 09:17

tenbob · 07/08/2022 09:15

It’s also the name of a breast pump and kegel trainer brand…

I think that’s where most peoples minds go when they hear the name

Yes, I thought this was about the breast pump!

TitilatedOcelot · 07/08/2022 09:16

Two names with the initials L... V... ?
