Our little girl will be due 2 days time, the two names on the list our Rea or Ria either these spellings I really like. I do like Rea. I love the meaning of the name Rea.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Prefer Rhia or Thea

easyday · 05/08/2022 21:40

Isn't it an Asian name? Both girls I know called it (spelt Rhea and Riya) are both Indian. I think it's a lovely name.

knightsinwhitesatin · 05/08/2022 21:16

I like it. Would spell it Ria, or the traditional Rhea

soupmaker · 05/08/2022 21:14

I'm Scottish. The way I say Rea does not sound like rear because we roll our 'r'!

PancakesWithCheese · 05/08/2022 21:13

I think you should spell it Ria to minimise any jokes.

Ihatethenewlook · 05/08/2022 21:11

Makes me think of one of those ugly birds. Or someone’s arse

HastaLaBisto · 05/08/2022 21:11

Rea will spend her life correcting it back from Rae.

CakeCrumbs44 · 05/08/2022 21:11

My first thought was the big bird Rhea, like an emu or ostrich. And also "rear" like rear end.

TailSpinner · 05/08/2022 21:09

Are you a native English speaker? Because I would say it does sound lovely in other languages where you sort of accentuate the ‘a’ properly at the end of words. But in English that ‘a’ just becomes this not so pretty ‘uh’ sound, which messes up a lot of nice names actually. It’s a shame, but in English its a no.

I like it but prefer raya pronunciation rather than ree-a. Would maybe spell it Rhea.

Not so sure - a Rhea is a large bird, like an emu / ostrich!

Honestly my first thought was "drivin' home for Christmas..."

And now that's in my head for the night, cheers

Same 😬

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 05/08/2022 21:06

its lovely

mrsed1987 · 05/08/2022 21:06

I'm a Ria. Named after a character in a TV show in the 80s, occasionally had the diarrhoea comments in primary school but never bothered me. Lots of people comment on it being nice but uncommon.

I did get annoyed being unable to get anything with my name on as a child

torquewench · 05/08/2022 21:06

Makes me think of multiple World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea.

So, is it pronounced Ray or Rear with a.silent last R?

TailSpinner · 05/08/2022 21:05

It looks nice written down. But it doesn’t sound like much when you say it out loud.
It just sounds like ‘rear’ - as in rear end.

I wouldn't spell it that way. A rhea is a kind of ostrich!

My DD has a friend called Ria. She's Hindu, it's a popular name in her religion. She's a beautiful girl and her name suits her.

MargotChateau · 05/08/2022 21:03

Sorry I went to a school with a Ria, and she went through school getting teased, with riffs of her name like diarrhoea or gonorrhoea. Child abuse mate, don’t do it.

SunnyNunny · 05/08/2022 21:02

I think it’s a beautiful name.

siblingrevelryagain · 05/08/2022 21:00

It’s dire (see what I did there?)

ellieboolou · 05/08/2022 20:59

Sorry but it's an awful name, will always associate it with the runs

jammiewhammie65 · 05/08/2022 20:59

No how about Leah

BuffaloCauliflower · 05/08/2022 20:58

Make me think of Rear, like your bum.

How about Thea?

I know one and I always think rhea end, bring up the rhea, passengers in rows 20 and above please board from via the rhea steps...

I won't never name a child after my arse

Won't never? Stupid autocorrect. I would never

Makes me think of Rear as in Rear End... sorry!
