If I was having a girl at Christmas what would I call her?
If I was having a boy at Christmas what would be his name?

DC2 was due on Christmas day. If she had been a boy we were going to go with Joseph and I started a thread here to check most people wouldn't think it wasn't Christmas themed. If people did I would have thought it was far too twee and abandoned it.

If you must, I'd pick a name that isn't so obviously Christmas related. I like Natalie - the one I know is Jewish so I don't think of Christmas at all.
Though I do like Noelle - the one I know is a lovely woman and have no idea when her birthday is.

My birthday is Christmas Day and I wouldn’t have thanked my parents for a name like Holly tbh. That said, my son was due early Jan and if he came early I liked the idea of Noel being his middle name.

Christmas birthdays are hard.

It's ok saying they are what you make them, but that's not true.

My son's friends can't come to parties because they are all away or with family.

Everything has to be brought forward or postponed. Imagine having your 18th or 21st party at a completely different time (even a week away from your actual birthday doesn't work as people are busy)!

I definitely wouldn’t do a Christmas-themed first name - it’s bit twee, and as pps have said not ideal to lumber a child with the festive association all year round.

I do quite like Noelle as a possible mn for a girl though, and maybe Nicholas for a boy.

DD was born in December and we didn’t use any Christmas/winter names, although would have considered Nicholas/Nico had she been a boy (mainly because we liked it, rather than the seasonal connection).

@Letshoptoit it's Jovie from Elf, right? Not Joely?

I love Jovie.

Christmas Birthdays don't have to be bad at all it is what you make of it. Just toying with the possibility of some names nothing set in stone. Thanks for people's suggestions!

My mum has a Christmas Eve birthday and she loves it, it’s also my favourite day of the year. She’s called Angela, Nana says she was her Christmas angel. It’s a very 1960s name though!

OldYork · 05/08/2022 05:22

I wouldn’t! But if I HAD to, I’d go with Natalia

romdowa · 05/08/2022 05:18

Natasha means born on Christmas day in Russian. Its not a name typically associated with Christmas either

Gooseysgirl · 05/08/2022 03:37

A friend of mine named her daughter Jasmine because she loved Winter Jasmine - it has beautiful yellow flowers. I thought that was lovely and a less obvious connection to Christmas.

The number of posts I've seen on here by grown adults STILL nursing a whole bunch of angst and resentment about "having a Christmas birthday" "I've NEVER HAD a proper birthday" "Nobody makes you feel special" etc. etc. makes me feel quite strongly that it's probably not a good idea to draw attention to the "birthday=Christmas" thing by choosing a festive name of any kind.

Pick a name which is not related to Christmas.
