Hi! Do you think Hallie could be a suitable nickname for Ophelia? I think Hellie would work as 'hel' features in Ophelia, but would Hallie work?

I'd say Philly is the natural shortening

Ophelia is so beautiful :)

I had the name Ophelia on my list if I ever had a dd. (Not going to happen now). To be honest not sure what you could shorten it to...Lia? I dont think Hallie is really a nickname of it though. As a PP said, its a name in its own right.

How about Henrietta nn Hallie? After all, young Henry V was Prince Hal.

You really don't get to chose nicknames for your children. They go to school and they and their friends do that for them. Hallie works well as aname in its own right. Easier to spell than Ophelia too.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that! I don't know anyone who has a nickname that they were called at school that they weren't first called at home. Perhaps nicknames that derive from surnames, yes, but I don't think children are going to school and coming home with entirely new names...

I've found that I like names like Kit (short for Christopher), Peggy (short for Margaret), Hallie (short for Harriet) etc but we already have a Harriet in the family so was trying to see what else it could be short for! It doesn't seem like quite enough to be the full name on the birth certificate somehow, but maybe I'm wrong!

Hellie wouldn't work either. The middle sound is 'f' not 'h'.

No. If you like Hallie call your DD that but don't try to engineer it from Ophelia.
