What do you think of the Persian name Vashti?

Hi all! 👋
We are looking for a name that fits our cultural background (Persian/ Indian) and came across this lovely name. What are your thoughts? I know it has some biblical associations, we are not Christian though, more into new age & dharmic spirituality. Can we still use the name based on it’s Persian origin? Can it work in the UK & internationally?

To any of the Hindi/ Farsi speakers out there: does it have any negative associations in those languages?

Lovely name.

@41andtryingforfirst If there are lovelier Persian names, can you give us a few?

BlueberryJammy · 10/08/2022 12:55

Sorry, never heard this name in India.
Not a huge fan as it reads too much like veshti, which means a traditional white wrap around dhoti for men in the South

I've always loved Vashti. Beautiful name. I first read it in the Bible as a child. It also reminds me of the singer Vashti Bunyan.

I knew it was Persian (because of the Biblical figure) but I didn't know it was also an Indian name.

Beautiful name and great for a little girl or grown up woman.

Imaginary · 09/08/2022 15:44

Sounds very Indian to me. (I am not Indian)
I don't like the sound of it, sorry.

Mamapep · 09/08/2022 10:35

Beautiful name.

I assumed it was a boy's name. My ignorance really but a problem you may encounter.

goldfinchonthelawn · 09/08/2022 10:14

I love it. Good associations. It sounds really energetic to me.

NancyJoan · 09/08/2022 10:12

I love it. There is a shop near me called Vashti that sells lovely dresses, which makes me like it more!

WeCanBeHappyUnderground · 09/08/2022 10:10

I think it's lovely 🙂

blameitonthecaffeine · 09/08/2022 10:07

I didn't know it was Persian (I've only cone across it on a white British lady) but I think it's beautiful.

I agree with @Meredusoleil.

I speak Farsi and there are much more beautiful names than this in Iran. I don't even think I've ever met an Iranian with this name?

Neither have I - in fact, to my ears it sounds more Hindi than Farsi!

Beautiful name.

RuthW · 03/08/2022 13:30

No. I misread it as a rude 4 letter word at the end

MyPenIsHuge · 03/08/2022 13:07

As a native English speaker (and German speaker) it's easy to say, easy to spell and sounds fine to my very European ears. If you like it use it :)

FoxyLadyBoutique · 03/08/2022 10:23

Vashti Bunyan! 😍

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 03/08/2022 10:16

My friends wife was called Vashti. I think it's really pretty.

I think it's lovely - it's the name of the title character in a book called The Dot which is a great book about creativity.

So it is! A super book. Not just creativity, but self-belief as well.

hewouldwouldnthe · 03/08/2022 09:11

Sounds like a boys name to me.

lastminutedotcom22 · 02/08/2022 23:01

I love it my friend Aarti (lady) her sister has this name and they're both very cool

Rascalsandradishes · 02/08/2022 22:57

I love the name Vashti. It was my great aunt's name. She was born in the 1920s and I have never heard of anyone else with that name. Her siblings had quite boring names in comparison and I wonder where the inspiration for her name came from.

Vashti Bunyan! That's who I think of straight away.
