DH likes Amber

I don't mind it and I can't think of any others. Suggestions welcome!

Thanks!

Seems to be a very strong positive reaction! Thanks everyone!

I love it, I'd have considered it but a close family member has already used it

jammiewhammie65 · 29/07/2022 12:54

I love amber. I also love Freya

SapphosRock · 29/07/2022 12:46

Gorgeous name

Enko · 29/07/2022 12:45

Pretty name

TrashyPanda · 29/07/2022 12:42

It’s lovely.

don’t like ember - think of dying embers.

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/07/2022 12:40

I have a friend with a daughter called Amber. I think it’s a lovely name, really pretty

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 29/07/2022 12:38

Very nice name!

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 29/07/2022 12:28

I like Amber, but I think I prefer Hazel.

RuthW · 29/07/2022 12:23

Love it

crustyrolls · 29/07/2022 11:44

@RustyBear - I'm sure she's lovely :)

Just a coincidence that the ones I have met over the years (only 3!) are not very nice.

I wonder if others have name/characteristic associations that put them off?

ColmanFlamingo · 29/07/2022 11:41

I really like it, it was quite popular a while ago so I know a few older Ambers. It is a lovely sounding name. I also like Ember.

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/07/2022 11:39

I think it's beautiful.

TempsPerdu · 29/07/2022 11:25

Amber has a lovely sound; one of those words that’s just really nice to say. I think it went through a phase in the 80s/90s when it wasn’t seen as very classy, but it seems to have lost that association now. Wouldn’t choose it myself, but I think of it as a ‘nice name’, and stronger than lots of the currently popular über frilly or -ie ending names.

Currently it’s not that common but still top 100 - haven’t met any since I taught one a decade or so ago, but there’ll be an Amber starting in DD’s Reception class this September.

@Whattodonowadays
Hazel is lovely!

I like amber, it made my list as well as ember, I went with hazel in the end though as it was the only one my partner would agree on. X

newlabelwriter · 29/07/2022 10:55

I really like it. I've only ever met 1 other Amber and she was great!

springingup · 29/07/2022 10:54

@Krakinou I've never seen Spaced so have no idea what a teen Amber could be like! 😅 Not sure if it would be a good idea to watch it now or not!

@Krakinou we've really struggled with girls names, a few that came up were Iris, Eva and Ayla

@MrsMontyD that did cross my mind but I agree, I think it'll be forgotten soon enough

SunshineAndFizz · 29/07/2022 10:48

Nice. And not too popular.

HairyToity · 29/07/2022 10:47

Love the name Amber

Krakinou · 29/07/2022 10:43

I like it. My first thought was the awful teenager in Spaced, but that’s a funny (and obscure-ish?) reference and might give you some light relief when she hits 13.
Otherwise, it’s a nice sound, pretty colour and doesn’t sound too cutesy for an adult.

Are there any other names you’ve considered and dismissed?

PeanutButterOnToad · 29/07/2022 10:42

I like it. It is not an unusual name here in Aus, DD always had one or two in her class at school.

ItsDangerousInKingsmarkham · 29/07/2022 10:40

I like it a lot!
