I’d say 50/50. I know a few dogs called Luna but also a few girls. A bit like Tilly and Teddy it’s just a name that can be both. What is it about the name that attracts you? Maybe we can give you some similar suggestions?

JasmineVioletRose · 29/07/2022 05:19

I prefer Leah.

JasmineVioletRose · 29/07/2022 05:18

It's s dog's name for me.

FlissyPaps · 28/07/2022 23:28

Would you use it for a middle name OP?

My friend (part Italian) has a Giovanna Luna and I love it!

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/07/2022 23:25

It’s more that it reminds me of Looney

It’s popular for girls as well as well as dogs but it’s had it’s day IMO

SkyeBlue28 · 28/07/2022 23:08

I like the name Luna and it wouldn’t bother me that it is often used as a dog’s name, unless I personally knew someone with a dog called Luna. You could choose any name for a your child and then hear it was used for a pet. I know two dogs called James and Noel.

BotterMon · 28/07/2022 23:04

Not keen. Makes me think of the moon. Nice name for dogs and/or horses.

easyday · 28/07/2022 23:01

Yep my cat was called Luna and a friend's dog. It's a nice name though.

Pumpkinjam · 28/07/2022 22:57

Sorry I’m not keen…it reminds me of the crazy girl from Harry Potter

KirstenBlest · 28/07/2022 22:52

Shall I start a thread on Actual Dogs' Names and Actual Stripper Names

I lied. I don't have DDogs, or a DC called Snowy. I read Tintin in the original language and DC is Milou. Wink

minuette1 · 28/07/2022 22:51

How about other moon names:
Selene/a
Artemis
Neome
Ayla
Mona
Altalune

I love the name Luna but couldn't get past the Loony/Lunatic nicknames. Maybe use it as a middle name if you really like it?

AutumnColours9 · 28/07/2022 22:50

Lovely name. Also like Lena amd Leona/ie

KirstenBlest · 28/07/2022 22:47

@PinkButtercups , my DC is called Snowy. DDogs are Archie and Lola

User3456 · 28/07/2022 22:46

It's a lovely name but I do think it's too widely used for pets at the moment. Sorry :-(

PinkButtercups · 28/07/2022 22:45

As soon as I saw the name I knew a dog would be mentioned.

Maybe people should call their dogs just by actual dog names. I don't know like snowy 🤣. Considering they're not actually humans.

pimlicoanna · 28/07/2022 22:43

It just makes me think of Harry Potter. I'd assume you were a Harry Pitter fan.

lickenchugget · 28/07/2022 22:30

Luna is a bit instaflogger circa 2015 for me

ChagSameachDoreen · 28/07/2022 22:29

Lunatic.

Seashor · 28/07/2022 19:10

It’s an absolutely dreadful name, honestly don’t do it. Loopy Luna, Luna the lunatic, looser Luna. Hideous.

Butterbeer4All · 28/07/2022 18:33

Luna is a lovely name

FourChimneys · 28/07/2022 18:30

In our road we have both a dog and a cat called Luna.

I like Lena and Lucy.

sunglassesonthetable · 28/07/2022 18:20

I love it OP. Don't know a single dog around here by that name, they're all called my son's name.

Goawayangryman · 28/07/2022 18:15

Sorry, Leila, Lila...

Goawayangryman · 28/07/2022 18:14

I really like the sound of it, it's pleasing. But god yeah, every second female doggo around here is called Luna. And a fair few kids too.

There are loads of L- two syllable female names out there if you decide Luna isn't for you. Leila, Leila, Leia...

amylou8 · 28/07/2022 17:34

I like it but wouldn't use it. Loony Lona and Harry potter. Lena or Lana are lovely.
