Husband or mine names part 2

Depakote · 24/07/2022 19:27

Hey, it's me again lol. Baby is born, and it's girl. She still doesn't have a name.

Husband and I are still "arguing" about the name because he is picking , what I find, a ridiculous name! He dropped the "Harper-Rose" when I showed him the comments. But now he's determined to have her named "Levi-Lily" Please tell me it ridiculous because his mother thinks it's a good name.

We both like the name Alba, but he keeps saying she looks like a Levi-Lily. No. She does not. Anyone like his choice?

Levi? For a girl? Might as well call her Isaac. What a stupid idea.

Alba Lily is perfectly nice. Lily can be a middle name. Do NOT hyphenate.
DH can call her by both if he wants to (he'll be the only one though)

stopthepain · 25/07/2022 10:00

Imo having 2 first names is awful. Just have a first name, middle name and surname. Call her Lily or Rose or Harper but only choose one. Levi is a boy’s name.

Also, there’s 26 years between you and your DP? There’s 25 years between me and my DAD. My dad is 2 years older than your DP.

heavyistheheed · 25/07/2022 10:00

As a PP pointed out it literally has EVIL in the middle of it. For that alone it should be vetoed regardless of the fact it is an AWFUL name.

Stand your ground, don't be bullied.

Cocowatermelon · 25/07/2022 09:59

Alba is lovely. Lily is nice.
Tell him no way are you using Levi for a girl.
Use it if you have a son (I don’t like it much but it’s a name. It’s fine on it’s own as a boy’s name).
Or just get a goldfish/stick insect and name it Levi.

heldinadream · 25/07/2022 09:55

If he really thinks boy's names are more serious than girls names - and then comes up with Levi-LiIy, what? - I don't think I'd take his opinion on anything at all seriously OP. Just call your beautiful daughter whatever you want because your dh is clearly not of sound mind. Grin

RhubarbFairy · 25/07/2022 09:51

Absolutely stand your ground and do not let him bully you into it. Are you married? As if you are, he can register her name without you present (DH registered both of ours).

FolornLawn · 25/07/2022 09:51

Oh blimey OP, your husband is deranged. What about Naphtali? Zebulun? I hear Gad's coming back.

Congrats on your daughter.

No to hyphens, no to a boy's name. Alba is lovely. Get a pet and call it Levi.

WaltzingWaters · 25/07/2022 09:50

Alba is okay. Unique.
Levi-Lily is absolutely awful. I mean beyond dreadful. Sounds like a pornstar name or a drag queen. DO NOT ALLOW IT!
Harper-Rose is awful too. Harper OR Rose are fine. Or one as a middle name.
But then I can’t stand hyphenated names (same as pretty much everyone on mumsnet it seems!).
congrats on your baby girl.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 25/07/2022 01:59

Congratulations!

Are you planning to stop at one? I think I said this on your other thread but since he loves Levi so much I'd save it for a boy. There's a Hebrew girls' name Levana(h), but apart from that I can't even think of a girls' name that's similar.

How about Alba Lily (no hyphen)? Or Rosalba (legitimate Italian name, means white rose)? Or Lee Violet? 🤓

OH I love Rosalba.

I think he will want to try until he gets a son. But that's a no no from me. Apparently because he's older, that's his chance to get a boy. I am 23 and he is 49.

No we are not religious and she is a girl. I really dislike boys' names for girls. You'd never see a little boy called Olivia or Rose. He thinks somehow adding the Lily makes it masculine. And he gives the "argument" that boys names a more serious.

Levi-Lily is one of the least serious names I have ever heard, on here or in real life.

It most certainly does not pass the judge test.

Also, you carried her for nine months and gave birth to her. If you say no to hyphenated names and no to Levi for a girl, it's a no and he needs to accept that.

But he sounds massively unreasonable so tbh I think you should just get her registered before he goes behind your back and lumbers her with one of his God-awful choices.

KirstenBlest · 25/07/2022 09:47

Suggest Levi-Jean to him

babyjellyfish · 25/07/2022 09:45

Levi-Lily is an even worse name than Harper-Rose.

Wtf is your husband thinking?

If he's said he likes the name Alba then at this point I would just book an appointment and go on your own and register her as Alba.

My ex suggested awful names, I tried to compromise but we ended up not having a name when she was born.

Just after I had given birth I decided on her name, ex said he wasn’t sure. I honestly couldn’t have given a monkeys what he wanted to call our daughter at that point. After carrying our baby and giving birth, whilst he just merrily sat back and suggested rubbish names, I decided that actually, he can bugger off. On this occasion, after everything I had gone through to bring our daughter in to existence, I was having the final say on the name! I think this is one of those times OP (I let him pick the middle name).

Levi is awful.
double barrelling is awful.
out if all of the names from your thread, I’d go with Alba.

Massive congratulations on baby.

To be honest, that is very true. She only is 4 days old. I am still in pain and Mr. gives me a hard time. I tried to compromised, but I think I might call her my favourite name. Margot. That was my girl's name before all the Levi started.

Congratulations on your new baby!
Levi is a male name and is in the bible, so unless your baby is in fact a boy and you are religious, that's not the name for you.
Alba is lovely. Alba Lily? Sounds pretty.

Alba is nice, as is Lily. Both very useable.

Not Levi. Livvy as a pet name for Livia or Olivia is nice. Or Libby from Liberty or Elizabeth.

PP suggestion of Liv is also nice.

It sounds like the L sound is what he likes??? So I'd probably compromise on either Lily Alba or Alba Lily.

TooHotToTangoToo · 25/07/2022 07:49

No to Levi, if he wants something g unusual how about

Star
Luna
Lola
Jupiter (although I hate this, but not as much as Levi)

Merryclaire · 25/07/2022 07:44

That’s a dreadful name. I agree with PP — you’re going to have to play the ‘I’m the one who carried her and gave birth to her’ card.

grumpynamechange · 25/07/2022 04:06

If he wants something short and a bit 'different', how about:
Juno
Lux
Noa
Liv
Or literally any name under the sun except Levi-Lily?

grumpynamechange · 25/07/2022 04:03

Levi is a biblical BOYS NAME!

And Levi-Lily is possibly the worst name I've ever heard suggested on here. It's chavvy and just doesn't even make sense? Why Levi-Lily? Why not David-Daisy or Reuben-Rose or Paul-Poppy if he likes the combination of a BIBLICAL BOY'S NAME hyphenated with a popular girl's flower name?

And hyphenated names are just the worst anyway. Even two nice names are ruined by a hyphen.

Alba is lovely and ancient and classy and different and pretty. Go with Alba.

Bloody hell, what is wrong with men when it comes to choosing baby names? Are they serious or just trolling us? I feel for you OP. My DH is equally as bad.

OhamIreally · 25/07/2022 02:13

Alba means dawn in Spanish. It was the name of the daughter in the book The Time Traveller's Wife.
I remember thinking it was nice as a name.

Lemonlemon88 · 25/07/2022 02:05

Harper Rose is fine with out a hyphen.

Lily or Alba are also fine.

Levi-Lily is horrendous

AmandaMirandaPanda · 25/07/2022 01:59

Are you pronouncing Alba as Al-a-buh?
