Husband or mine names part 2

Depakote · 24/07/2022 19:27

Hey, it's me again lol. Baby is born, and it's girl. She still doesn't have a name.

Husband and I are still "arguing" about the name because he is picking , what I find, a ridiculous name! He dropped the "Harper-Rose" when I showed him the comments. But now he's determined to have her named "Levi-Lily" Please tell me it ridiculous because his mother thinks it's a good name.

We both like the name Alba, but he keeps saying she looks like a Levi-Lily. No. She does not. Anyone like his choice?

How did your Mum react?

She was devastated and blamed herself. But I did this willingly. He was always in our home, helped with homework ( he is very intelligent) and I fell in love. He didn't force me

I watched Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey recently and this thread made me think of that.

OP, do you have friends and family outside the relationship?

Yes I do, even though I am not allowed to have male friends or go out without him. Honestly, he didn't force him in anything. I wanted to marry him.

OP you could be a victim of grooming. Has he been your only boyfriend? When did you start dating? What does your dad think of his “friend” preying on his Dd? Actually, I noticed the words “WAS a friend of my dad’s.” I think you have more issues than coming up with a name for your Dd. Would you be happy for your friend to date your Dd?

Definitely a power imbalance in this relationship.

I'd go with Harper Rose out of the ones you've put forward. Alba makes me think of tvs and stereos

Quartz2208 · 25/07/2022 11:19

How did your Mum react?

Luckingfovely · 25/07/2022 11:16

OP with every post you write, the more worried I get about you. I know you started this thread to talk about names, but if you need support with other aspects of your relationship, I'm sure you'd find huge support on here.

And yes, as everyone else says, his names are vile and laughable. Do not give in to him. Do not let him take the baby out of your sight. And putting your maiden name as a second middle name is a good idea!

Yes everything is good. My dad hates my husband. They had physical fights, lots of violent things tbh. I have 2 younger sisters, and now my father is super protective of them, won't have friends over.

I still see my parents, but my husband is not allowed there, and the rule is : Don't mention your husband.

It kinda ruined my family life.

That doesn't sound good, to be honest.

You're married to a man who knew you as a very young child and basically waited until you were only just overage - but still legally a child - to start a relationship with you. He's had violent physical fights with your father and caused an awful lot of trouble for your family. And now he's bullying you over your daughter's name and treating you like some sort of brood mare, planning to keep getting you pregnant until you eventually provide him with a son, who would no doubt be obviously favoured over your daughters.

Quite honestly, he sounds awful.

Register your daughter alone, with a sensible name that you like, and ideally your maiden name in there for good measure. And think very carefully about whether things are actually "good" in your relationship, and it is setting a good example to your daughter of what a healthy marriage should look like.

Imagine your little baby in six years' time, meeting a 32 year old man. Then imagine her in a sexual relationship with that same man before she's even old enough to have done A-levels. I'm not surprised your dad hit the roof.

Quartz2208 · 25/07/2022 11:11

Oh OP it really does sound as if you were groomed 17 and a 43 year old - imagine what you would think

And now he is not listening to you at all and just wants his own way with the name and having a son

I willingly married him. I wanted to. My dad and him are no longer friends and when he found out he beat him :/. Now my dad does not bring make friends over the house and is super strict with my 2 younger sis.

He is the only man I have ever been too, we started our relationship when I was about 17.

I agree, much bigger issues here than the baby's name.

Although her baby still deserves not to be saddled with a terrible name.

HairyToity · 25/07/2022 10:56

Please don't saddle your daughter with Levi-Lily. I love the name Margot. Or Alba or Lily are lovely too. I also like Lyra?

Me and DH went for a compromise name. My first choice was Sylvie, his Laura, and we settled on Ava. I accepted he really didn't like Sylvie, and he accepted I didn't like Laura. Tell him no and to give up on Levi-Lily.

stopthepain · 25/07/2022 10:52

Depakote · 25/07/2022 10:25

Yes, I have known him since I was like 6. He was a friend of my dad's.

Marymary987 · 25/07/2022 10:51

It’s awful! Really awful and I like unusual names. I really dislike hyphenated names though. Alba is much nicer.

congratulations on your baby!

Krakinou · 25/07/2022 10:51

Margot is lovely. I much prefer it to Lily.
Your husband sounds like a sexist prick, and creepy to boot. Please make sure you get your surname in there.

Mummacake · 25/07/2022 10:48

The only Levi's I know are boys. Levi-Lily sounds pretty naf - she'll shorten it to Lily as soon as she can

FeedMeSantiago · 25/07/2022 10:44

You're a lot younger than him but clearly much more sensible than he is!

My first thoughts on seeing Levi-Lily was Levi and Milly - you know, like Levi Bellfield who murdered several women and girls, including Milly Dowler. Then I saw the word 'evil' in the middle of the name.

I bet your 'D'H wouldn't name a son Jessamine-Robert, or Sophie-John or Isabella-David.

Margot, Alba, Lily and Rose are all better than Levi-Lily.

If he likes L names there are loads of nice girls names to choose from - Lyra, Leila, Layla, Lucy, Lara, Lena, Laura, Lauren, Laurel, Lorna, Louisa/e, Libby, Lucinda, Lowri, Lucille, Lucia etc.

Why does he like hyphenated names? Would he say the whole name every time or just Levi? Does he like names from initials a AJ, MJ etc?

has he considered changing his name by deed poll to Levi?

Yes. He like 2 words nicknames. All he proposed was hyphenated names. Billie-Jo, Levi-Rose, Levi-Lily, Levi-May , James(his name)-Rose , Harper-Rose

Imo having 2 first names is awful. Just have a first name, middle name and surname. Call her Lily or Rose or Harper but only choose one. Levi is a boy’s name.

Also, there’s 26 years between you and your DP? There’s 25 years between me and my DAD. My dad is 2 years older than your DP.

Yes, I have known him since I was like 6. He was a friend of my dad's.

OP, if you took your husband's name when you got married, have you considered adding your maiden name in as a second middle name?

I don't want to piss on your bonfire, but your husband doesn't sound very nice, and if your marriage doesn't last and you want to change your name back one day, you might be glad of having your surname in there too.

SunshineAndFizz · 25/07/2022 10:09

God no.

Alba is nice.

Lily on its own is nice.

Levi is a boys name.

ANYTHING hyphenated is absolutely terrible. I'd instantly judge.

babyjellyfish · 25/07/2022 10:07

Depakote · 25/07/2022 09:48

OH I love Rosalba.

I think he will want to try until he gets a son. But that's a no no from me. Apparently because he's older, that's his chance to get a boy. I am 23 and he is 49.

Also, he sounds like a sexist prick. Sorry.

Who does he think he is, Henry VIII?

babyjellyfish · 25/07/2022 10:07

RhubarbFairy · 25/07/2022 09:51

Absolutely stand your ground and do not let him bully you into it. Are you married? As if you are, he can register her name without you present (DH registered both of ours).

This. Be very careful, OP.

If you're married either one of you can register the birth without the other's input, so if there's a risk of that happening, make damn sure it's you that does it and not him.
